The officers and directors of the Bunton Cemetery Association would like to express their sympathy to the family of Teresa Sladek.

Teresa Sladek was born in Austin, Texas on October 1, 1946, to Rosa Lee and Alfred Lowden. Teresa spent her early childhood in the Austin area, where she loved to run, play, and swim with her best friend and sister Wilda. Teresa attended Rosedale Elementary and Lamar Junior High, before graduating from Mccallum High School in May of 1964. She was an active member of the Future Homemakers of America, serving as Vice President, and participating in Spring style shows. After graduation, Teresa attended Nixon Clay Business College.

About the time Teresa started working at Southern Union Gas company, she met Herb in 1966 at The Skyline Dance Hall. After one year of dating, they were married on May 13, 1967. As they began their life together, Teresa worked for other companies in the Austin area such as The University of Texas, The Angley Law firm, and then the Travis County Medical Society.

In 1969, Alan Lee was born and then Paul Justin in 1977. Teresa adored her two sons and was incredibly involved driving carpools, going on school field trips, and attending their numerous sporting events. Raising her two boys was the highlight of her life! Teresa and Herb also enjoyed traveling to South and Central America in the 1980’s attending The Pan American Lectureships. She loved visiting the missionaries, learning about new countries, cultures, and people.

Teresa was an active member of Hyde Park Church of Christ in Austin, where she founded and directed The Mothers’ Day Out program for 16 years. During that time, she enrolled in St. Edwards University to complete course work in Early Childhood Development. Later, she and Herb moved to live on their ranch in Dale where she obtained her Texas Real Estate License and founded Sladek Real Estate in Lockhart. Teresa genuinely loved working with families and property owners, “making dreams come true”. While living in Lockhart, Teresa was a proud member of The Lockhart Church of Christ, Red Hat Society, The Beta Club, and The Irving Club, where she was involved in the “Reading is Fun” program going into the local schools to read with the children.

Teresa received her eternal reward on June 10, 2024, at 77 years of age. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Herb Sladek of Dale, her son Alan Sladek of Cleburne and his wife Dawn, and her son Paul Sladek of Round Rock and his wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her Granddaughter Claire Fender and her husband Luke of Midland, Grandson Jack Sladek of Cleburne, and Great Grandson Hank Fender of Midland. Other survivors include her sister Wilda Vasquez and her husband Ismael of Bastrop. Niece Malinda Edwards Vinklarek of Bastrop, and her sons Clay and Caden. Nephew Matthew Vasquez and his wife Misty of Rosanky and their children Brooke, Katy, and Audrey. And her cousins, which were more like sisters, Becky Fouse of Longview, and Eva Chrisner of Lockhart. Preceding her in death are her parents and her nephew Michael Heath Edwards.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support Ugandan Mission Work through The Lockhart Church of Christ.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Lockhart Church of Christ at 11:30. Funeral services will be held the same day at 1PM, also at the Lockhart Church of Christ followed by burial in Bunton cemetery.

Here is the complete obituary for Donnell Ballard.

After joyously celebrating his 97th birthday, Don Ballard passed away peacefully three days later on May 18, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Donnell Ardell Ballard was born on May 15, 1927, near Dale, Texas, to Charlie Alva Ballard and Hallie Lackey Ballard. Don spent most of his childhood in Mathis, Texas, where he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mary Lackey Murphy and Walter Murphy.

Don graduated from Mathis High School one year early, in 1943. He then enrolled at Texas A&M University, two weeks after his 16th birthday.

Don’s studies were interrupted by military service. He joined the United States Army in 1945. Don is fond of saying that the end of the Second World War had little to do with the atomic bomb; instead, when Japanese spies learned that Don Ballard was on the way, they knew they had no chance! He trained at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on July 19, 1946.

While he was at Fort Eustis, he met Mary Frances Brown of Detroit, who was then a student at Sweet Briar College, Virginia.

Don returned to Texas A&M in the fall of 1947. He completed his B.S. in Chemistry in 1949, having received financial assistance from the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act (the “GI Bill”).

Don and Mary Fran were married on August 31, 1950, in Detroit. They lived in Ypsilanti and Dearborn, Michigan, before returning to Texas A&M in 1951. Don worked on his Master’s Degree in Chemistry, which he completed in 1953, and Mary Fran worked in the library.

Don was hired by Dow Chemical Company in 1952. He worked at the Dow facility in Freeport, Texas, and he and Mary Fran lived in the nearby town of Lake Jackson. Don and Mary Fran welcomed Anne Edmonds Ballard in 1953, and Charles Lincoln Ballard in 1954. In Lake Jackson, Don was active in the Boy Scouts, and with St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.

Don left Dow in 1968, and went to work for Arco Chemical, where he worked until 1987. Don and Mary Fran moved several times with Arco, settling finally in Wayne, PA., for 33 years. For many of those years, they were very active with the Democratic Party of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. They spent their last years in assisted-living facilities in Austin.

Don was an avid traveler. The family took vacation trips by car across much of the United States in the 1950s and 1960s, and a trip to Europe in 1968. After the children moved on, Don and Mary Fran traveled often to Michigan, Vermont, Virginia, and Texas, and to the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Don’s business travels took him to Europe, South America, and Asia on many occasions.

Don was a great storyteller. He loved to tell of the “real-life adventures” that he collected on his travels. He loved to regale his listeners with stories from his army days, and with reminiscences from Mathis, College Station, Philadelphia, New York, Singapore, Chennai, Paris, and Rome. Don was introduced to opera when he was in the army, and he became a lifelong fan. He attended operas in person in Houston, New York, Philadelphia, Milan, and Paris, and listened often to recordings.

Don Ballard loved his family and his many, many friends. He was truly a remarkable and caring man, and we were privileged to have known and loved him.

Don will be interred at Bunton Cemetery in Caldwell County, Texas, on June 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by Mary Fran, his wife of 71 years, and by his siblings, Elloise M. Ballard Adams and Neal K. Ballard. He is survived by his children, Anne Ballard Spacht (Mark Spacht) of Austin, and Charley Ballard (June Youatt) of East Lansing, Michigan, grandsons Scott Woodward of Austin and Andrew Ballard of Tallahassee, Florida, sister-in-law Diane Drake Brown of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Don’s beloved Texas A&M University. The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff of Live Oak Assisted Living Home in Austin, particularly Don’s caregivers Adam and Kim, and the amazing folks at Enhabit Hospice Care, especially Brandon Erickson, who gave Don only love and respect during the last 18 months of his long and remarkable life.

Just realized I put the wrong picture on the previous post. I meant to post a picture of the flags.
The flag pole and the original flags ( the weather takes its toll!) were donated to the cemetery by Lisa Alexander and Beverly Paterson, if my memory serves correctly, in memory of their family members. Johnny Cheatham, who was serving as association president, either put up the flag pole or had it done for the families.

Feel free to provide corrections if any of this is incorrect.

Thanks again to the family of Carl and Eve Singleton for the new flags.

The officers & directors of the Bunton Cemetery Association would like to let members know of the passing of Mr. Grady Manley. Our sympathy goes out to his family.
Grady Ward Manley, Sr. was born on May 12, 1932, in Dale, TX, to Grady Quinn Manley and Anabel (Shinn) Manley. He loved the Bible from a very young age, learning his ABCs with stories of Bible characters whose names began with the letters of the alphabet, and he began memorizing Bible verses when he was two years old. His personal relationship with Jesus began when he was eight. After moving to Michigan for just 6 weeks, his family moved to Houston, TX, when Grady was in the 6th grade. In 8th grade, he was introduced to the clarinet, which began his love of music. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1949.

During his senior year of high school, Grady felt the call of God on his life to the ministry. He was ordained in the Assemblies of God in 1958. He spent 2 years at the University of Houston, 2 years at Central Bible Institute in Springfield, MO, and finished his Bachelor of Science in Missions and Bachelor of Theology degree at Southern Bible College (Houston, TX) in 1964. After completing his course work in 1968, he earned his Master of Theology degree from Southern Nazarene University (Bethany, OK) in 1974.

Grady pastored in Brookshire, TX; Taylorsville, TX; Nacogdoches, TX; Lincoln, CA; Santa Cruz, CA; and Smithville, TX. He served as a staff pastor in Phoenix, AZ; Independence, MO; Edmond, OK; Sacramento, CA; and Austin, TX. He taught Bible and theology at Southern Bible College, Bible for the Fisherfolk Ministry (Millbrae, Scotland), Bible and math at Foothill Christian High School (Roseville, CA), Bible Christian School (Austin, TX), and Bible at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church (Austin, TX). He has authored children’s church and theology teaching materials, computer training courses, and 4 books borne out of his life-long passion of teaching the Bible.

On June 20, 1956, Grady and Janice Louise Lister were married in Houston. Their 3 children are Grady Ward Manley, Jr. (1957), Ruth Ann Toon (1959), and Ronda Kay Christmas (1962). They have 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He has 1 sister, Lunola Boydene (Dene) Redmon; and 2 brothers, Tommy Ross and Granville Ellis.

Grady wrote a memoir of his life for his descendants. He concluded his life story with these words: “The bottom line is this. You have no treasure in this life more precious than your faith. Life without a living, intimate, enduring fellowship with Jesus is empty, even when things are going well. When trouble or disaster strikes, He is our only source of strength and hope. Let nothing rob you of your relationship with Him; let nothing separate you from the strength that comes from fellowship with fellow believers in the church. These are riches that will sustain you in every circumstance of life.”

The officers and directors of the Bunton Cemetery Association would like to express their sympathy to the family of Eve Fielder Singleton.

Eve was a Past Regent of the Jane Long Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Vice President DAR Houston Area Regents Council and served as an NSDAR Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) Deputy Representative at the Michael E. Brown Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was a member of The First Families of Texas. She was also a proud member of the Bayou Buffalo Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Her love of genealogy and tracing her family history led her to being instrumental in erecting a monument at the Bunton Cemetery in Dale, Texas honoring James George, her 3rd great-grandfather, one of the 32 volunteers from Gonzales who died in the Battle of the Alamo.
