Happy Black Breastfeeding Week!
August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month and this week the focus is on highlighting the importance of nursing in the black community. 💛
We are well aware of the disproportionate rates of mortality as it pertains to our babies in birth and within the first year of life, so for now we’ll spare you with those statistics. This week we focus on the benefits of breastfeeding whether it’s a few days, weeks or a few years; every drop counts!
🤱🏿Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for most babies. It has the right amount of fat, sugar, water, protein and vitamins for your baby’s development.
🤱🏾Breastfeeding can help protect babies against some short- and long-term illnesses and diseases. Breast milk contains antibodies that protect against infection and boost immunity.
🤱🏽One of the favorite benefits is the convenience of nursing. Mothers can breastfeed anytime and anywhere.
🤱🏼Breastfeeding can reduce the mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. After delivery, breastfeeding lowers your risk for postpartum depression if breastfeeding is going well and you feel well-supported.
A big hearty thanks and recognition for mothers/birthers and their families everywhere that have loved and supported their little ones by breastfeeding. We know personally as mothers and doulas the challenges as well as sweet victories it can bring.
