How do you store your towels?

Organizing Laundry Rooms: Give your laundry (and cleaning) supplies a home.

Find a place for all of your laundry day essentials — detergent, dryer sheets and stain removers — in cabinets, drawers, baskets, canisters, etc.

Cabinets or a free-standing shelving system can hold all of your supplies without getting in your way of doing laundry. Store detergents and most used items on the shelves at waist level for easier reach.

If you have a bigger gap between the washer and dryer, fill that space with a shelved cart that you can roll in and out.

As always, store like things together!

When organizing small kitchens….

Buy less… Shopping at Sam’s Club or Costco may not be for everyone, especially if you don’t have enough room to store those surplus items.

Choose well…. Don’t fall for the slick advertising ploys when shopping by buying more than you need just because it was a good sale.

Make it last…. Use airtight containers to keep food fresher longer.

Remember: Store like items together but in a location that makes sense. In the “after” picture, notice that pots and pans are stored in cabinet next to stove. We also hung a lid organizer on the door for easier access.

You know I love a coffee and tea station! We purged expired items, bought clear airtight containers for sugar and creamer, and clear organizers for k-cups from , then grouped like items together.

Purge and prioritize! Ask yourself these questions to help you determine what to keep and what to donate or throw away.

Do you really need five spatulas?
When was the last time you used that egg slicer?
Should I keep the pan with the Teflon peeling inside?
Do I really need a junk drawer?

After you have answered those questions, organize, group and stack similar items neatly together. But the most important tip is to store your items in a location that makes sense. For example, put dishes and glasses in cabinets close to the dishwasher for quicker unloading. Put pots and pans in cabinets closer to the stove and oven.

When organizing small pantries, you will need to prioritize, purge and maybe even repurpose other spaces near your kitchen.

Still in my dad’s kitchen. He had way too much food in his small pantry. After purging and prioritizing, I realized we would need to repurpose space somewhere else, especially for those Sam’s Club purchases. 😉

Using storage containers (aka decanters) can help eliminate oversized boxes and large bagged items. Using clear storage containers also saves you time by being able to find things more quickly. Using labels helps you find things even faster! Who wants to spend all day in the kitchen?

The garage was only a few steps from the kitchen, so a sturdy shelf system was purchased from Home Depot to store all the surplus items neatly.

Now, my dad can see when his inventory is low and time to restock!

As some of you may know, I went to ATL to help take care of my dad after his double hernia surgery and my stepmother who has MS. My father injured himself while moving 2 months ago so they were not able to put things away the way they wanted or needed. DSO to the rescue!

On my last Tidbit Tuesday, I said sometimes you have to use alternative storage options and repurpose spaces if you don’t have enough space in your space. That’s exactly what I had to do for my dad’s kitchen. They did not have enough counter space or cabinet space for all of their appliances – even after purging. So, this kitchen cart was purchased and the unused space in breakfast area was utilized.

The sizable toaster oven and air fryer, that are used often, have been relocated a few steps away in the breakfast area. The cart also stores less frequently used appliances.

Hangers are kind of a big deal!

Have you ever had a hanger leave “dents, bumps or dimples” in the shoulders of a shirt or sweater? Well, that was the wrong hanger. The right one will help keep your clothes looking good and prevent wrinkles. The wrong hanger can damage your clothes.

Choose the right hanger for YOUR clothes:

·  Button-downs, shirts and blouses - Choose hangers with wide (or narrow, depending on your size) shoulders to allow shoulder seams to rest comfortably in place. (Recommend velvet or anti-slip hangers.)

·  Tanks and spaghetti-strap tops - Look for hangers with notches to secure straps or lock them in. (Recommend velvet or anti-slip hangers.)

·  Jeans and pants - Choose hangers that have a non-slip rubberized bar that prevents pants from slipping and creasing. (Recommend any sturdy style hanger.)

·  Coats, jackets and blazers - Choose sturdier hangers and button or zip them up to help keep their shape, especially when they're in storage during the off-season. (Recommend wood hangers.)
