My name is Tanhar Islam, and I'm the founder of Project Kin Bangladesh. Established in 2021, Project Kin Bangladesh is an organization nationally recognized in Bangladesh through which I teach students in my native village, Islampur, to speak and pronounce English through my free course EnglishSimplified. The students enrolled in my course learn English as they work to study abroad in the future in the search of better opportunities. Since May of 2021, I have held virtual lessons through Facebook Messenger and Zoom with over 100 high school and college students in Islampur, Bangladesh! Through these virtual meetings I have tutored students in English grammar and comprehension skills. I have posted several of these lessons on our Project Kin Bangladesh page, and plan to post more so the lessons can reach a wider audience. We also regularly collaborate with faculty at both Alhaj Kazi Rafiqul Islam High School and Alhaj Kazi Shafiqul Islam University College to distribute our English lessons to attending students to be taught additionally by teachers and professors. This way, my lessons can reach a greater population of people and can be taught the best way possible, through in-person classroom interaction. Through Project Kin Bangladesh, I've also worked with Bangladesh's Dream for Disability Foundation to hold annual food and clothing distribution events for both the homeless and disabled population in Islampur. We have held these events during the annual Eid holiday seasons in both 2022 and 2023, and plan to continue holding them in 2024 and beyond. I started my current project in August of 2023, launching a new part to my English course called the EnglishSimplified Pronunciation Lessons (ESPL). Here, I focus on helping students pronounce English words properly. I am excited to continue teaching students in my village English as they work to achieve the opportunity to study abroad in the future!
