Fertility Doctor -> I Build Families So incredibly cool!

I specialize in fertility, assisted reproductive technologies and reproductive surgery at Conceive Fertility Center. I have been practicing fertility medicine in the Dallas area since 2008. Doubly board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in in Obstetrics and Gynecology & Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Personal:
Married, father of twins, Paloma and Valentino.

I needed IVF, donor egg and surrogacy to be a father and build my family. My personal and professional life are linked by the IVF lab and modern fertility technologies. It's surreal to look back and know that my children were once in a petri dish, were biopsied as embryos and and frozen in my lab! Thanks to science I am a father, and needing fertility care to build my family has given me the unique experience and perspective of the patient which cannot be learnt "in school", ultimately allowing me to connect professionally and personally to my patients. I hope to bring some of that to light via Facebook. I was born in Bogota, Colombia, lived in Costa Rica for 3 years, and moved to Dallas in 1991 and started High School at Newman Smith Highschool in Carrollton. -> So Hablo Espaรฑol and was educated here! I love to travel, photography, deep house music, and especially doing all the above with my family! Professional:
I graduated in Genetics and a minor in Spanish with High Honors from the University of Georgia. I graduated early from college to do scientific research fellowships at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, and at Harvard Medical School in Boston. I obtained my MD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and set up the 1st free Spanish medical clinic in the region, which is still ongoing! For residency I moved to Chicago to do my Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University. Finally I moved to Dallas to do my fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UTSW. Awards:
Texas Monthly Magazineโ€™s Super Doctors and Rising Star Award since 2012

PCOS is no longer called that, and it has been renamed! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ
Polycystic O***y Syndrome has been renamed to PMOS โ€” Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

PCOS NEVER ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿฝ really made sense.

First of all, the syndrome has never actually been based on ovarian cysts. These patients do NOT have cysts โ€” they have many antral follicles, meaning a very high ovarian reserve. These are NOT cysts; they do not cause pain, nor do they increase cancer or surgical risk. They are simply lots of eggs!

Second, the old name did not truly describe the syndrome, but now it does!

POLYENDOCRINE
โ€” Involves abnormalities in neuroendocrine hormones such as LH and FSH, insulin, and androgens like testosterone. So it also describes the high diabetes risk with related issues like increased facial hair, acne, and male-pattern hair loss.

METABOLIC โ€” Correctly describes the association with obesity, insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, high cholesterol, and cardiovascular risks that these women carry long after their reproductive years.

OVARIAN โ€” Infrequent ovulation, many antral follicles seen on ultrasound, high ovarian reserve, infertility.

SYNDROME โ€” Meaning it includes many medical aspects and not just a single cause: genetics, environment, etc.

Other related factors include abnormalities in the endometrium such as precancerous changes, depression, anxiety, and sleep apnea, among others.

But this new name correctly describes most of the associated symptoms, which we hope will help properly diagnose and treat the 70% of people who have MPOS but have never been diagnosed! Diagnosis is essential to prevent the serious associated complications, since it is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age, affecting more than 10% of women!!!
