If you had one, you’d know...
Having a head injury is bad enough but the insult of not getting answers to when your symptoms will get better or even how to support your brain’s healing might make you want to slam your head against a wall...again. The traditional medical visit usually looks something like this. Show up and wait. You wait because you’re not bleeding (or maybe you are so they only treat the cut). By the time you get in they do the short exam and get you in for your CT and/or MRI. This is very important to make sure there is not a bleed or physical damage. LIFE SAVING if there is. If there isn’t, you’re all clear. Unfortunately, the symptoms make you think otherwise. You’re told they’ll likely go away on their own. “Just rest and wait” they say. Well what about nutrition? Supplements? What over-the-counters are safe or not? Should you sleep or not? Should you fast or should you binge? What about exercises or other therapies that could be used to help initially or in the long run? These are all questions that are left unanswered as most times, no one is qualified or capable of speaking on these topics at locations that are intended to save your life from injuries. Not blaming the ER or Doc-in-the-box you’re at. Just look at the education they worked hard for in school. Life saving procedures like surgeries and drugs. These facilities save lives and that is their intent. If you are looking for answers on “what now after my head injury”, you are left to read, if you’re even able to concentrate with that headache and eye strain, listen, even if it feels like nails on a chalk board, and learn as much and as fast as you can to save yourself. We are here to help however we can. Beacause, if you had one, you’d know.
