💙 As we wrap up Autism Acceptance Month, we’re reflecting on the powerful ways autistic children explore, learn, and grow—and we’re excited to share some new insights!
In our latest study, published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, we found that autistic infants engage in playful vocal exploration—like squeals, growls, and vowel-like sounds—just as systematically as their neurotypical peers. These sound clusters show that even in the very first year of life, babies are actively forming vocal categories—the early building blocks of spoken language.
🌟 While some aspects of development differ across children, this finding reminds us that there are also powerful shared foundations—like the drive to explore and communicate. These similarities highlight the innate potential that all children bring to their early learning journeys and the importance of supporting every child's unique path to connection and communication.
