Abdominal exercises after birth can be scary if you don’t understand what is safe and good for your body!

That info is outdated though and we now know that crunches actually narrow the size of the diastasis and are important in the healing process.

Crunches aren’t the only safe exercises though.
Planks
Sit ups
V-ups
Toes to bar
Double leg lifts
Scissors
Pilates

All safe! What else have you heard is harmful to diastasis?

If something doesn’t feel right or you want to check your form we’re here to support you!

If you've already tried kegels for 2 weeks and you haven't noticed an obvious improvement in your symptoms then something else is going on and kegels or any machine that does kegels for you isn't going to be the solution. A whole body approach to tackle the movement system is going to be a game changer!

P.S. Nobody needs 10,000 kegels in 10 minutes or even in a month! That's not how the pelvic floor works or gets stronger. If you wanted stronger glutes you wouldn't do 10,000 squats in 1 day. If you did, you'd probably get stuck on the toilet!

Truth: Leaking p*e is more common as we age but it's still not normal!

Leaking can start with periminopause because we are typically less active or due to the decline in estrogen. Both of these are completely treatable and you should be able to stay dry and active!

Truth: Kegels are great for exactly 1 problem = pelvic floor weakness.

But most people aren't leaking p*e because they are weak. They are leaking because their:
coordination is off
muscles are tight or short
estrogen levels are low
hips aren't moving well or aren't strong
bladder is pr*****ed

So, no kegels won't fix every pelvic floor problem. If you've already tried kegels for 2 weeks and you haven't noticed an obvious improvement in your symptoms then something else is going on and kegels or any machine that does kegels for you isn't going to be the solution. A whole body approach to tackle the movement system is going to be a game changer!

Truth: Pelvic health problems can occur in anyone!

Some of the most common causes of pelvic issues:
- Back Stiffness or hypermobility --> pelvic pain
- Core weakness --> pelvic pain, leaking
- Ehler's Danlos/Hypermobility --> bladder, bowel, sexual and pain
- Chronic constipation/straining --> prolapse
- Hip/Back/Foot injuries ---> leaking p*e

If you've never been pregnant but you're struggling with leaking, constipation, pain or sexual difficulties you aren't alone! It's much more common that you might think and totally treatable.

Truth: Everyone has a pelvic floor!

The muscles do the same things
- hold in p*e (and relax to empty)
- hold in gas and BMs
- And support stabilty in the pelvis

Slight anatomical differences but we treat them all!

Steps to fix diastasis….

1. Improve core coordination and strength

2. Get the lumbar spine moving well and strong and then in an ideal position for core activation during activities.

3. Improve thoracic spine positioning in activities. Sometimes that includes mobility of the spine and/or the muscles around the spine and shoulders.

4. Achieve full rib cage mobility on inhales and exhales

5. Put it all together and load the core!!

Let us help you get through these steps and recognize the areas that would benefit you.
