Adult Protective Services investigated more than 99,000 allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation of older adults in Texas in 2022. The same year Texas ranked third in the nation in losses to elder fraud.

Texas Healthy at Home and Guardianship Services, Inc. are co-leading the formation of the first statewide elder justice coalition in Texas with the help of a $327,770 grant.

8 Ways to Protect Yourself from Financial Fraud
-Know your risk from strangers, friends and family.
-Don’t isolate yourself—stay connected.
-Tell solicitors, “Send me something in writing.”
-Shred all receipts with your credit card number.
-Sign up for the “Do Not Call” list (1-888-382-1222) and take yourself off mailing lists.
-Use direct deposit for benefit checks.
-Never provide account or personal information by phone unless you initiated the call.
-Be skeptical of all unsolicited offers.
