Emergencies can happen anytime even at home. While we're always here when you need us, being prepared can make a big difference in those first critical moments.
Here are a few at-home emergency tips from Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Midlothian to help keep your pets safe until you can get to us:
🧰 Have a Pet First Aid Kit
Include gauze, bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and a digital thermometer.
🆘 Know What's Toxic
Common household items like chocolate, grapes, onions, xylitol (in gum), and some plants can be very dangerous to pets. Keep them out of reach!
🚫 Don’t Give Human Meds
Never give your pet over-the-counter medications unless directed by a vet any are harmful or even fatal.
🐶 Stay Calm and Contain
If your pet is injured or frightened, try to gently contain them in a carrier or quiet room until you can get professional help.
