Christian, a Medical City Dallas COVID-19 patient, is headed home tonight and sharing how the vaccine likely saved his life. In 2019, Christian received a kidney transplant which put him at a higher risk for worse outcomes if contracting COVID-19. Because of this, he decided to get his COVID-19 vaccination.
“COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly and transplant recipients are at a higher risk of hospitalization and worse outcomes than general population due to weaker immune systems and a higher rate of comorbid medical problems,” said nephrologist and transplant specialist Naseer Khan, MD. “The protection rate against the virus is reported to be greater than 90% in recipients of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines”
Christian says there was no other option and without his vaccine, his doctor told him he may not have lived.
