Spooky season was in full swing with our Halloween bash! We threw down with potluck goodies galore and a nail-biting game of Jenga. The laughs were non-stop, and our taste buds had a wild ride. But wait, there was a bit of a Jenga-induced fright when the blocks came crashing down, nearly giving one of our ghoulish guests a concussion!

It was a Halloween party at the office and everyone was in high spirits. The ladies had gone all out with their costumes, sporting brightly-colored fur and rainbows on their bellies. They giggled and posed for photos, making sure to capture every angle of their cute outfits.

But just when they thought the party couldn't get any better, the creepy monsters decided to join in. At first, everyone was a little scared - after all, these monsters were known for their frightening appearances and odd behavior. But as the monsters started dancing to the music and playing games with the rest of the crowd, it became clear that they weren't so scary after all.

In fact, the monsters seemed to be having just as much fun as everyone else. They roared with laughter and showed off their best moves, blending in seamlessly with the Care Bears and other partygoers. By the end of the night, it was hard to tell who had more fun - the ladies or the monsters!

A whole range of eyelid-related issues can affect the little ones. Some of the common eyelid issues that children may experience include eyelid swelling, eyelid twitching, and eye discharge. These issues may be caused by a variety of factors, such as allergies, infections, or even stress. It's important for parents to keep an eye out for any changes in their child's eyelids, as they can indicate an underlying problem that needs to be addressed. If a child experiences persistent or severe eyelid issues, it's best to consult with a pediatrician or ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. By taking care of their child's eye health, parents can help ensure their overall well-being and development.

There are several things that occur in infants and children that affect the appearance of the eyelid. These include blocked tear(lacrimal) ducts, chalazia, styes and ptosis.

Fever:
When do you call your pediatrician for fever? For any infant 2-3 months or younger with a re**al temperature of 100.5 or greater, this is a MUST. A careful examination is needed to rule out potentially harmful infections in this age group. For older children, persistent fever, or a fever associated with a specific symptom like an earache or sore throat, should be a reason to call your pediatrician. Every parent is different which means there are various levels of concern for fever. I advise my parents to call whenever their โ€œthreshold of concernโ€ is triggered.

BREASTFEEDING VS. BOTTLE FEEDING

Most people think of feeding as being an all-or-none phenomenon, whether only breast or only bottle feeding and this does not necessarily have to be the case. Many moms will pump and store breast milk then give it via a bottle on the occasions that she is unavailable or just needs a break. This allows dads (and others) to feed and enjoy that bonding experience while still giving the baby the optimal form of nutrition. For some mothers, supply just can not seem to keep up with demand, and giving a formula becomes necessary to both satisfy baby AND keep him/her nutritionally balanced.

Allergies or a cold?
Sniff, sniff, cough, cough, terrible nasal congestion. Weโ€™ve all been there more times than we can count. However, when your child is faced with these same symptoms, your parental instincts kick into high gear with a desire and a need to get your child feeling better. But what do you do if you donโ€™t know what is causing those symptoms?

Let's Talk P**p!
For our first topic, I have decided to start at the bottom. Literally! It concerns something that parents seem to be obsessed withโ€ฆtheir babyโ€™s or childโ€™s P**P. Over the years, I have seen more dirty diapers that parents have brought as โ€œevidenceโ€ and more photos and videos of poops than I could have ever imagined.
We, as adults, are conditioned to have a predictable daily (sometimes more) bowel movement and we certainly have an idea of how that BM should look. When you see that your baby or child is not doing what you expect, it becomes a huge source of worry and concern.

In observance of the New Year holiday, our office will be closed on Monday, January 2nd. Normal hours will resume on the 3rd. As always, take care and be safe!!

12/28/2022

Wishing all of our families a Happy New Year! The holidays can be challenging with young children. Here are some tips to help everyone be a little more joyful.

-Allow children to have flexibility in choosing what they do, eat, wear when you can
-Traditions are important, but not at the expense of your family's sanity. Be open to creating new traditions that work for you all.
-Meltdowns are common with big changes to normal schedules. Be patient and help calm little ones when they have big feelings.
-Food is typically a bid part of holiday celebrations and family gatherings. Involve younger children in preparations, table setting, or cleanup to help them feel included as well.
-Be ready for plans to go awry. The best made plans can take a turn quickly, so be prepared with backup plans and plenty of distractions or snacks.

#2023

12/27/2022

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, or whatever you celebrate this time of year. As we end this year and look to 2023, it seems we are faced once again with medical challenges - what experts are calling the "tridemic" with increasing numbers of influenza, Covid, and RSV. It is not too late to get that flu vaccine and of course boosting your Covid coverage with the new bivalent vaccine. The holidays bring us together, often in large numbers, which means exposures to many illnesses- but you CAN do things to prevent and protect yourself and your loved ones!!! Call today to get your flu and/or Covid booster.
