Maintaining an adequate milk supply is one thing that all moms can relate to while breastfeeding. So how does this relate to occupational therapy? Forming good habits such as healthy diet, maintaining good hydration, exercise, and skin to skin contact are some very important factors that can help improve and maintain your milk supply. Doing these things can simply improve your bond with your child which in turn becomes a meaningful activity of daily living. While relaxing your pelvic floor you are able to create a calm environment for yourself which in turn aids in milk let down.

It’s common to think drinking less water equals less leaking or less trips to the bathroom. The truth is staying hydrated is crucial for continence and bladder health. Stay hydrated y'all! 💦

1.“Kegels are a one size fits all solution”- You might've heard that kegels are the solution to your pelvic floor problems, or you might've heard that kegels are bad. The truth is, kegels are not inherently good or bad, but their usefulness depends on what is happening with the pelvic floor. If appropriate, kegels are one tool toward pelvic floor strengthening but are not a stand alone remedy to pelvic floor dysfunction.
2. “Only women need pelvic floor therapy”- Did you know that men, women, children, basically anyone may experience pelvic floor dysfunction? Pelvic floor issues and treatment might look a little different for each population, but all of us have pelvic floors!
3. “Pelvic floor dysfunction is unavoidable with age”- Just like with any other health-related issue, taking preventative measures is key. Keep your body moving as much and as long as possible, stay hydrated, eat a nutritious diet, and learn how to engage your pelvic floor in your daily activities.

Have you been given any advice that you think might be a pelvic floor myth? Let us help you decide by commenting below!

Self-care is a popular topic these days and we are here for it. When you think of self-care you may think of exercise, monthly manicures, getting a massage, taking a walk in nature, or that 30 minutes of alone time you get before everyone else wakes up. “Self-care” has a different meaning to each and every person because we all have unique needs.

Today I am challenging you to consider the idea that investing in your pelvic health is a self-care activity. Our pelvic health impacts our physical health, mental health, social lives, and sexual experiences. Let's make ✨2023✨ the year of improved pelvic health.

As you’ve noticed we are very passionate about helping move your bowel movements along…. That being said, identifying what is actually causing that stubborn constipation is important and can be beneficial to your overall health to modify your lifestyle. Some causes include limited fluid and fiber intake, imbalances in the diet (too much sugar and animal fat), a sedentary lifestyle, repeatedly ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement, or even lifestyle changes, such as pregnancy and travel, and laxative abuse just to name a few. We want to help you find the cause of your constipation, so you can get back to doing all the things that are important to you!

Bladder irritants are food and drinks that irritate your bladder and cause increased urination or even bladder cramps. Some bladder irritants, like alcohol, may be obvious. We have listed some of the most common bladder irritants and some are not quite as obvious. Notice that even while you might be eating or drinking “healthy” you could be irritating your bladder. We can help you determine if there is anything in your diet that is worsening your leakage or urgency.

Hello all! Erin and I have recently opened PivOTal Occupational Therapy and we are working diligently to create a beautiful network of individuals to collaborate with.

If you serve those in the DFW area and would like to meet, we are going to be at Starbucks on 12/3 from 10:30 AM - 12 PM (Location: 7700 W Northwest Hwy #300, Dallas, TX 75225 located inside the Barnes & Noble). We would love to find out a little more about you, how you are serving the greater community, and maybe make a few friends along the way.

We've had the pleasure of meeting a few chiropractors, doulas, midwives, OT/PTs, and are looking to further expand our knowledge of who is out there helping the birth community! We are looking forward to meeting you and hope to see you

Let’s talk $hit (pun intended). Seriously though. Why are “bathroom habits” such a taboo topic? Everyone poops. Here are 4 tips for healthier poops:

Water. Hydration is crucial. If you aren’t drinking enough water, your stools will reflect that. Hard stools can be caused by dehydration, so drink that water to loosen up your stools.

Exercise. This is huge. Regular exercise can stimulate bowel movements and help stool move through your intestines faster. Feeling constipated? Try exercising.

Fiber. The best way to get fiber is through a diet full of fruits and vegetables, but there are also over the counter fiber supplements that you can take. Fiber can bulk up your stool and even soften it. That means fiber can help to firm up loose, watery stools or soften hard, difficult to pass stools.

Position. This is a little-known fact, but the best position for pooping is a squatting position. Squatting relaxes the muscles responsible for helping us maintain continence (or hold in our stool). Squatty Potty stools are great for getting the body in the correction, but if you don’t have one you can rest your feet on your trash can or a step stool.
