🍩 Donuts with Docs: Our Quarterly Tradition!
Last week, we kept the clinic hustle and bustle behind us for our regular "Donuts with Docs" get-together! This tradition is a favorite because it has one simple rule: NO talking about work! It's a fantastic way for our providers and staff to connect, build more personal relationships, and enjoy some great treats! We love strengthening our amazing team.

Are you experiencing hip pain but wondering if it might actually be coming from your spine? 🤔 You're not alone! It's a common confusion because these two areas are so closely linked.
Understanding the difference can help you describe your symptoms more accurately to your doctor and get the right treatment faster.

Here's a quick guide to help you differentiate:
🦴 Hip-Related Pain usually means: Pain in the groin or front of the hip.
👟Worsens with hip movement (e.g., rotating your leg).
May feel stiff in the hip joint.

🧠 Spine-Related Pain often means: Pain in the back of the hip or buttocks.
☄️May shoot down the back of the leg (sciatica) with numbness or tingling.
🪑Often changes with spine positions (e.g., better when sitting or leaning forward).

🚩Remember: This is for informational purposes only. Always consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan!

If you're unsure, it's always best to get it checked out. Your health is worth it!

Do you have these dimples?

They are called Dimples of Venus. They are two symmetrical indentations in the lower back, named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. They are caused by a short ligament tethering the skin to the underlying hip bone, the posterior superior iliac spine. While they are a result of genetics and body fat distribution, their presence or absence has no medical significance.

Say Hello to the bodies dramatic internal communication network called the Nervous System.
It has two main departments: Central Command (CNS): The Brain and Spinal Cord. Brain: The CEO that handles all the thinking, planning, and that pesky overthinking.
Spinal Cord: The fast-acting security guard. Touch a hot surface? It yanks your hand back before the Brain even gets the memo.
Field Network (PNS): All the nerves connecting the rest of the body. This team has split personalities: Voluntary: The control you use to consciously move a limb. Autonomic (The Mood Swings): Sympathetic: ⏫️ Heart Rate! ⏫️ Adrenaline! (The "GO TIME" switch) Parasympathetic: ⏬️Heart Rate! ⏬️ Digestion! (The "Nap Time" switch) So, if you're suddenly jittery or completely zoned out, your internal IT department is probably just arguing about whether it's time to fight a bear or take a nap.

How to Find the Right Spine Surgeon
Choosing a spine surgeon is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your health. Whether you're dealing with scoliosis, herniated discs, or complex spinal deformities, here are key factors to consider:

✅ What to Look For:
Board Certification: Ensure the surgeon is certified in orthopedic or neurosurgery with a spine specialty.

Experience with Complex Cases: Ask how often they perform surgeries similar to yours.

Minimally Invasive Options: Surgeons trained in advanced techniques may offer faster recovery and less pain.

Patient Reviews & Outcomes: Look for consistent positive feedback and transparent success rates.

Hospital Affiliation: High-quality institutions often reflect high standards of care.

Communication Style: You deserve a surgeon who listens, explains clearly, and respects your concerns.

🏥 Bonus Tip:
Institutes like Southwest Scoliosis and Spine Institute specialize in complex spine care and offer multidisciplinary support—ideal for patients needing advanced treatment plans.

Your spine is your foundation. Choose a surgeon who treats it like one.
