Having a MTHFR variant doesn’t mean you’re broken.
It means that your body doesn’t make methylfolate very well.
You still can make methylfolate. Just not as well as someone who doesn’t have a MTHFR variant.
If you take methylfolate and you don’t need it, you will struggle with:
- Joint pain
- irritability
- Insomnia
- itchy skin
When do you need methylfolate?
When you dirty your MTHFR gene from:
- nitrous oxide (laughing gas)
- alcohol
- low protein intake
- fasting too long (everyone is different)
- hard exercise
Don’t tolerate methylfolate?
- use folinic acid
- use choline
- use phosphatidylcholine
- use creatine
I’m still learning why some people react so poorly to methylfolate and some people thrive on it.
It may have to do with:
- serotonin levels or
- histamine levels or
- potassium levels or
- glutathione levels or
- ?
