In 2009 news that a single surgery ( Trigger point release) can help migraines and chronic headaches ricocheted worldwide. Subsequently FDA approved BOTOX use for chronic migraines on October 2010. Drugs for migraines and chronic headaches often do not help chronic sufferers and have side effects including mental sluggishness, nausea, muscle weakness, difficulty in thinking, and trouble functio
ning. Trigger point release is type of migraine surgery that works by releasing the pressure on these trigger sites and hence preventing the occurrence of migraine and persistent headaches or at least making them less frequent and with less intensity. Some reports have confirm nearly 90 percent response and 60 percent complete elimination of pain .

Proud to announce the upcoming newest publication by our team which included residents and research fellows at UTSW department of plastic surgery.
We discovered a new sensory frontotemporal nerve which may lead to a better response during migraine surgery, nerve blocks, and botulinum toxin injections. All used in migraine treatment which affects 39 million men, women and children in the US.
In addition, discovering the existence of the accompanying vessel could have significant implications in understadning the safety of facial filler and fat injections during cosmetic correction of the temples.

Here's a recent testimonial from one of our patients! Feel free to contact us for more information:
"Our journey with Dr. Amirlak started 10 months ago. My 16 year old son had been diagnosed with NDPH- basically a catchall diagnosis when they can’t stop the pain or find the cause. Joe went from a healthy 12 year old to having a constant 24/7 migraine with bouts of vision loss following a sinus infection. For 4 years, we had seen countless specialists- neurologist, psychologists, headache specialists, pain counselors, ENT’s, chiropractors, and acupuncturists. We followed all doctor’s orders, and tried all the medications, diets and hospital stays they recommended. Nothing helped. Joe went from an outgoing, straight A student, to missing 2.5 years of school from the pain. He rarely came out of his darkened room. The doctor’s told us there was nothing more they could do for Joe; he had to learn to live with the constant pain and loss of vision. Their only final recommendation was to put him on anti-depressants to lessen the risk of su***de and send him to a boot camp for chronic pain.
One doctor mentioned Dr. Amirlak’s name as a possibility for us to pursue. She told us this in confidence knowing her supervisors wouldn’t approve of the approach as the procedure would not be done by a neurologist. We found Dr. Amirlak to be very caring and considerate of our situation, and fully explained everything to us and our son. We live in Colorado so he made himself accessible by phone and for us and was quick to return our calls and emails. Dr. Amirlak’s approach was more cautious than other doctors that we consulted with, and as a parent, I appreciated this. He made sure we took the time to fully research the procedures and encouraged us to get second opinions. In the end, I knew the Dr. Amirlak was the only surgeon that I trusted to help with my son’s condition. Dr. Amirlak has performed two nerve decompression/excision surgeries on my son this year, and his migraine pain level has gone from a constant 9/10 to a 4/10 with the first surgery, and a 0/10 with his last surgery. He has given our son his life back. Joe is reentering high school this year and has now decided to again pursue a career as a doctor. We know that there may still be days with migraines and pain and we may need further procedures- but we have hope, and I have my son back. I would recommend Dr. Amirlak and his fantastic staff to anyone who is considering nerve decompression surgery."
