Advocacy and leadership are inseparable. Real leaders do not wait to be chosen. They build the table and make space for others to rise too.

True leadership is not passive. It is intentional, strategic, and rooted in purpose. It is about amplifying voices that have been overlooked, creating spaces where conversations turn into action, and making sure change is not just talked about but built, brick by brick.

🚨 What’s happening to special education right now is not random. It’s strategy.

When they dismantle oversight, they remove accountability.
When they make protections optional, they weaken IDEA.
When they shift the money, public schools lose.
When they destabilize the system, they make it easier to rebuild it in their image.
And when they exhaust us, they silence resistance.

This isn’t just about layoffs. It’s about the deliberate dismantling of the systems that protect students with disabilities and support the professionals who serve them.

They are betting on chaos to keep us quiet.
We will not be quiet.

Let’s be real…
A packed schedule doesn’t always mean progress. Sometimes it just means you’re running in circles.

Here’s what helped me shift from being busy to being effective:
✅ Delegating tasks that didn’t need me
✅ Protecting quiet strategy time like a meeting
✅ Trimming meetings that didn’t serve a real purpose
✅ Carving out one “CEO hour” a week to plan, not just react

What happened next?

The Department of Education has gutted special education oversight. 95% of federal staff responsible for IDEA have been laid off.

This matters because OSEP and OSERS are the federal backbone that protects students with disabilities. When they’re gone, so are the guardrails.

Last night I had the honor of attending A Celebration of Joy: CDF Texas 2025 Through Their Eyes, hosted by the Children’s Defense Fund. It was a powerful and soul stirring evening filled with artistry, storytelling, and the bold visions of children and youth.

It was rich to witness our young people growing, thriving, and expressing their hopes, truths, and imaginations through their own lens. I couldn’t be prouder of Dr. Brandy Taylor, their phenomenal State Director, whose leadership and compassion guide this meaningful work.

The message from Dr. Starsky Wilson, President of the Children’s Defense Fund, resonated deeply. Through the eyes of our children, he challenged all of us to get off the sidelines and advocate for our babies, especially when they need it the most, which is now. He reminded us:

“When people see you walking and there’s no one behind you, you’re no longer leading… you’re taking a stroll.”

The next generation of leaders is here. It is up to us to show up, step up, and fight for them today so their tomorrow is full of possibility. 🌟

✨ Advocacy Thursday ✨

Tonight I’m attending the Celebration of Joy Fundraiser for Children’s Defense Fund, an organization born from the Civil Rights Movement and still leading the fight for our children today.

Founded by Marian Wright Edelman, who stood alongside Martin Luther King Jr., CDF has spent more than 50 years working to end child poverty, expand access to education, and protect the rights of children.

Right now they are taking the lead in fighting back against harmful federal policy changes and cuts to grant funding that threaten programs like Freedom Schools and critical resources for vulnerable children and families.

This is where we can make a difference. When public funding is reduced, community support becomes the lifeline.
