Are you 40...or beyond?

In many ways, pregnancy in your forties is the same as pregnancy in your twenties or thirties...in some ways it may not be.

Many people are now waiting until their 40s to have a baby. Having a baby after 40 may give people a chance to be emotionally and financially prepared for parenting.

Age can also make it more difficult to get pregnant and mean more testing during their prenatally.

Having trouble getting pregnant?

Research shows that 40% of the time the issue involves the s***m, 40% involves the egg and the rest is a combination of factors.

At Frisco Women’s Health, we'll engage in a discussion to review potential causes, treatments, and tests that are needed to determine the cause of problems with pregnancy and offer options...usually done at a fraction of the cost incurred by a reproductive endocrinologist.

What color is a healthy baby when it is is born?

It can be described as a purple or dark hue and that is normal. As baby cries and you bring your baby to your chest, it allows the transition from baby receiving oxygen from air rather than from the placenta.

As this happens, look for the skin to become more pink in their core and cheeks. By 5 minutes most healthy babies will have the pink tone we associate with a healthy newborn.

“You have pushed for 2 hours”
That's not a reason by itself to move forward with surgery.

You probably have an epidural that prevents you from feeling anything so you are probably not pushing effectively; (which is evident to your OB on exam because the baby’s head is still perfectly round.

But he won't tell you this, instead he says, "it’s just not going to come out”

Some moments a pregnancy are delightful.

One of the things that most people love is feeling their baby move.

The little flutters then the kicks....then those big moments, where you're not quite sure what baby has going on in there

Obviously, not all of pregnancy is delightful, but what parts do you feel grateful for?

300 extra calories a day.

There are many different body shapes and sizes and different bodies respond to pregnancy in many ways.

There is a wide variation in the amount of weight a person may gain in pregnancy. The most important thing to be mindful of is how and what you were eating to feed your body.

Your body is performing incredible functions during pregnancy and it needs to be fed wholesome, nutritious foods.
