As an independent hearing healthcare provider, Dr. Salazar works with many of the major prescription hearing aid manufacturers including Phonak, Resound, Unitron, and Widex.

This independence allows Dr. Salazar to provide patients with a wider range of options, helping them find the right hearing aids for their needs rather than being restricted by the limited choices available at some big box and hearing aid stores.

Do you have questions about hearing aid coverage through Medicare replacement insurance plans?

Medicare Part B does NOT provide any coverage for hearing aids.

Some Medicare Advantage plans and some Medicare supplemental plans provide discounts on hearing aids. If you see hearing aids listed as "free" on coverage information, the hearing aids are likely either very basic and not very customizable (helpful to some types of hearing loss but not all) or require a higher monthly premium or copay for better levels of hearing aid technology.

How do these plans provide discounts on hearing aids? They work through third party administrators which can negotiate lower bulk pricing on the aids from manufacturers and which pay an audiologist a fee for a limited number of services only.

These discount programs through Medicare Advantage and supplement plans usually cover only very limited services by an audiologist. It can be helpful to look into a plan's coverage for services so you can make plans for paying out of pocket for continuing hearing aid care.

It takes some serious investigation to decide on the right plan for each person. With most insurers, you will either pay for coverage through monthly premiums or through higher out of pocket costs (less coverage). Plan for how you will pay for hearing aids either out of pocket or through insurance coverage before deciding on a plan if you think you will need aids soon.
