Dr. Salazar has personally seen early in her career the effect on a person's life this program can ensure and has seen on international missions the effect when children with congenital hearing loss are not identified and treated as early as possible. Early identification of hearing loss is key to early treatment which affects outcomes that can shape an entire life. Please consider urging Congress to reenact this vital program!

On April 1, the entire branch of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program was eliminated. This program works with states to analyze data to help communities follow up with families in order to ensure that babies born d/Deaf or hard of hearing get support as early as possible.

This entire branch was eliminated in the April 1 cutbacks at CDC that slashed about 2,400 employees. EHDI had eight full-time workers and one fellow; all but one of the positions were eliminated.

Please consider contacting your congressional representatives to support this important program.
