Pet Boarding Dr. Jennifer Lavender and Dr. Kathryn Sarpong founded Metro Paws at Skillman and Live Oak in East Dallas in 2006, to offer residents personalized veterinary care.
In July of 2012, to better serve our clientele, Drs. Sarpong and Lavender built and opened our second location in Oak Cliff. We want to know your pets’ unique health needs and be accessible to our clients. Our staff is comprised strictly of individuals who love animals as much as we do. We hope to see you and your pets in one of our clinics in Dallas soon. The staff of MPAH is happy to help you wi

What is this you might ask?
This is how long Lou Ann Norman has been a part of the Metro Paws family! Lou Ann met Dr Lavender at The Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project (now Spay Neuter Network) before Metro Paws existed. Less than a year after its opening, Metro Paws was fortunate to gain Lou Ann as a receptionist. Upon her arrival, she was one of 5 employees, including Drs. Lavender and Sarpong. To say she helped shape and build Metro Paws from the beginning is an understatement. Her personal attention to clients solidified the hospital's presence in the community and her positive attitude created a positive work environment - both of which continue today. Metro Paws grew internally and externally and Lou Ann was a pivotal part of it all.
Her journey with Metro Paws started at the Skillman location but eventually took her to the Oak Cliff hospital. It was quickly apparent that her expertise were needed to supervise the front office staff. The Oak Cliff location often had 5 people working up front at any given time and Lou Ann oversaw them all - making sure the same level of attention that was started in the beginning survived in spite of expansion.
Throughout her tenure with Metro Paws - Lou Ann remained an active member on the Animal Allies of Texas Board of Directors. Her commitment to this organization and rescue work in general was indefatigable. Her work ensured many dogs and cats received care and homes in spite of financial or situational challenges. Her creation of the Grace Fund allowed Metro Paws to provide treatment to many in need that would otherwise have been unable to receive care. If AAT couldn't help, Lou Ann hit the phones and social media platforms to find aid.
Eventually Lou Ann was needed in a role that covered all locations. She became the rescue group coordinator and bookkeeper for all 3 locations. She has served in this capacity for several years and her duties will take multiple people to complete in her absence.
Lou Ann is absolutely a forever part of the fabric of Metro Paws and a founding member alongside Drs. Sarpong and Lavender. To say we wouldn't be who we are today without Lou Ann along the way is an indisputable truth. We wish her the very best on her next journey in life and retirement, and we will miss her dearly.
Message from Trey Knowles, Director of Operations…
While I know you have talked of this day for years, it still has not prepared me... When I joined Metro Paws 11 years ago, you took me in so very welcoming, even taking me to lunch to ensure that I felt welcomed and part of the family. You have helped me so much over these last many years, juggling so many changes and growth. To say “I don’t know what I would have done without you” would definitely be an understatement!
Lou Ann... on behalf of all your family here at Metro Paws, we wish you the best retirement! You have done so much for each of us and touched so many of our patients and clients over the last 15+ years! I hope you understand the impact you have left on each of us and all the pets you have touched. We love and will miss you so much, even though we know we will still see you with your rescue kids!

Meet Chip, the Kitten!
Chip, originally a stray cat, was rescued and brought into Metro Paws Animal Hospital LLC (Oak Cliff) to receive an examination from Dr. Spillers. During her visit, Chip was very sweet and enjoyed cuddles from her Veterinary Assistant, Mia. After determining that Chip has an underdeveloped eye, her new parents decided to continue working closely with Dr. Spillers to ensure she is under good health as we establish care.
Big shoutout to Lynnae for rescuing Chip and finding her a lovely new home with loving parents!
Check out Lynnae’s video below to hear more on Chip’s rescue story-- and to hear her loud purrs echo our hospital! Chip was even featured on TikTok, check out the video here: https://bit.ly/3u71cqw

Getting to the root of the problem is KEY. 🦷
Dental radiographs are important because they let us see what's going on under the gum line. Those black lines separate what's above and below the gum line and, for this basset hound, what lied above was a nasty infection! Luckily, we diagnosed the problem and got it treated quickly.
If your pet is in need of a dental exam or cleaning, request an appointment today via the link in bio - and receive $50 off your pet's anesthetic cleaning when you have your visit before the end of February!
