Sacred Space Counseling Center

Sacred Space Counseling Center At Sacred Space Counseling Center, we believe the deepest healing occurs within a context of safety and authentic connection with God, self, and others.

We want to connect and walk alongside you and your family as you grow and ultimately heal. At Sacred Space Counseling Center, we use a variety of ther**eutic modalities (i.e.: sand tray, art, play therapy, traditional therapy, etc.) to meet each client where they are developmentally and emotionally. In the first session, we collaborate with the individual/family to develop a treatment plan to addr

ess their individual/family needs. We approach problems from a systemic lens knowing that the individual does not live in a vacuum. The individual's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact his/her family and the other family member's thoughts, feelings, and actions impact the individual. We believe that healing is possible! Within a supportive environment designed to explore emotional patterns, an individual or family can identify those patterns that are working and those patterns that are not working. Once the patterns are identified, the individual or family can develop a plan for change! We charge up to 150 per hour for counseling, and we are willing to figure out a rate that makes counseling feasible for our individual clients. We look forward to hearing from you regarding your individual and/or family needs. Counselor Biographies...

Brandi M. Smith, Ph.D., LPC-S -
Brandi is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Approved Supervisor. She holds a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Smith has extensively studied interactions within families with a minor diagnosed with Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal (PANDAS). Under the guidance of Dr. Terry Hargrave, Dr. Smith received a Level II Certification in Restoration Therapy. As a Restoration Therapist, she encourages individuals and families to identify long-standing patterns of relational pain, recognize their regulating truth, and take risks to embrace new patterns of relational peace. Dr. Smith utilizes both child-centered and synergetic play therapy techniques to assist young children as they move toward big feelings and learn strategies for self-regulation. Having spent many years counseling child, adolescent, and adult survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, Dr. Smith has extensive experience working with trauma survivors. Beyond that, her clinical training and experience encompass a variety of issues that include: child/parent relational challenges, attachment issues, marital conflict, life transitions, depression, suicidality, anxiety, gender/sexual identity issues, and grief. Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Dr. Smith was alternatively certified as a Special Education Teacher and worked with individuals and families with seemingly insurmountable challenges. During this time, she learned that within the framework of a supportive relationship, her students and families were able to take risks and begin thinking outside of the box to address their day-to-day challenges. Dr. Smith carries this philosophy into the counseling room. She believes individuals are resilient and can find healing as they feel safe enough to take risks and practice healthier patterns relationally. Heather M. Cawthon, Ph.D., LPC-S, EMDR CIT

At Sacred Space Counseling, we have both EMDR trained and EMDR certified clinicians. We always want to be clear in what that means.

Per the EMDRIA website,

LPC Associates can only be EMDR trained (Basic Training Part I and Part II - 50 hours of combined classwork, consultation, and practice). LPC Associates with this basic training may practice EMDR under a fully licensed clinician and label themselves as EMDR trained only.

Fully licensed LPCs (having practiced for at least 2 years outside of LPC supervison) can start the process to become EMDR certified. They must then complete additional requirements, such as 20 consultation hours by an approved consultant and 50 hours of clinical experience with at 25 different clients. They must also have 12 EMDR CEUs before applying for certification.

Tori Stewart is an LPC that is EMDR trained. She will walk through the certifcation process after being fully licensed for 2 years.

Dr. Heather Cawthon is an LPC-S that is EMDR Certified as well as an EMDR Consultant in Training (CIT).

To confirm whether or not a clinician is EMDRIA-certified, you can always check on the link below under find an EMDR therapist: https://www.emdria.org/training-vs-certification/cnsn pon

The therapists of Sacred Space Counseling Center are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life caused by the recent floods in Texas. Our hearts go out to the families who are grieving, to the communities who have been upended, and to all those still searching for safety, comfort, and hope in the aftermath of this disaster.

In moments like these, words can only do so much to express the sorrow we feel for those who have lost loved ones and the homes and lives they built. We honor the memories of those who perished and stand in solidarity with the survivors as they begin the long road to healing and recovery.

We also extend our profound gratitude to the first responders, volunteers, and neighbors who have shown courage, compassion, and resilience during this crisis. Their strength reminds us of the enduring spirit of community even in the face of devastation.

May we continue to come together, not only in mourning but in action—to support relief efforts, to care for the vulnerable, and to build stronger, safer communities for the future.

We want to offer our services free of charge to anyone directly impacted by this tragedy. If you are in need, please reach out to us at 214.475.9411.
