A Man is NOT above a Woman & a Woman is NOT above a Man. Our Ancestors dealt with Balance

On March 6, 1857, the United States Supreme Court issued their judgment in Dred Scott v. Sandford—a decision with the potential to legalize slavery everywhere in the United States.

Dred Scott, an enslaved man, argued for his freedom after being taken out of the slave state of Missouri and into the free territory of Wisconsin.

Led by Chief Justice Roger Taney, the Court ruled that an enslaved person remained in bo***ge regardless of where their captor chose to take them. Moreover, Taney wrote that Black Americans had "no rights which the white man was bound to respect."

Although Taney hoped this would settle the legality of slavery once and for all, the decision served to galvanize abolitionists and accelerate the path to the Civil War.

In 1968, the Association of Black Psychologists was founded to challenge racism in the field of psychology and create culturally responsive models of care rooted in the lived experiences of Black communities.

That moment was more than history — it was a declaration that our healing deserved to be understood, respected, and protected.

This post concludes our Black History Month highlight of key milestones and pioneers who shaped the mental health space for generations to come. Their courage laid the foundation for culturally grounded therapy — and we are honored to continue that legacy.

At Black Men Heal, we carry this work forward by providing accessible, culturally aligned therapy and safe spaces where Black men can heal without stigma.

We are grateful for every supporter, donor, clinician, and community partner who helps us expand this mission. Because of you, healing continues.

Honoring the past.
Advancing the work.
Expanding access. 🖤
