Today is the first day of winter 2024, and at TSO Forney, we want to ensure your eyes are as prepared for the cold as you are!

Here are some Winter Eye Health Tips:

Combat Dry Eyes: The cold air and indoor heating can make your eyes feel dry. Use artificial tears and consider a humidifier in your home to maintain moisture.

Protect Against Glare: Snow can reflect a lot of light, increasing glare. Sunglasses with UV protection are a must, even on cloudy days.

Limit Screen Time: With more time indoors, reduce digital eye strain by following the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

Warm Up Your Eyes: Cold temperatures can cause discomfort. A warm compress can help soothe and hydrate your eyes after being out in the chill.

Stay Warm, Stay Hydrated: Drinking water is not just for summer; it helps to keep your eyes hydrated during winter too.

Fall eye care tips from TSO Forney

As the leaves change and the air gets crisper, it's the perfect time to ensure your vision is ready for fall activities! Here are some eye care tips for the season:

- Protect Against UV Rays: Even though the sun isn't as intense, UV rays can still harm your eyes. Sunglasses aren’t just a fashion statement; they're essential!

- Hydrate Your Eyes: The air gets drier in autumn, which can lead to dry eyes. Use lubricating eye drops to keep them moisturized.

- Watch for Allergies: Fall allergens like mold spores and pollen from ragweed can irritate your eyes. Consider antihistamine eye drops if you're prone to seasonal allergies.

- Update Your Glasses: With more indoor time, ensure your glasses prescription is up-to-date for reading or screen time.

- Check for Glare: With shorter days, driving in the dark becomes more common. Consider anti-glare lenses if night driving is bothersome.

Call us at 972-546-0229 or visit https://www.tsoforney.com/ to schedule your appointment online. Let's keep your vision sharp for all those beautiful fall sights!

November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month

Diabetes can affect more than just your blood sugar levels; it can also impact your vision. This month, let's shine a light on Diabetic Eye Disease:

What is Diabetic Eye Disease?
-It's a group of eye problems that people with diabetes may face, like diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. These conditions can lead to vision loss if not managed properly.

Why Should You Care?
-Regular eye exams can catch these issues early, when they're easiest to treat.
-Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in working-age adults.

What Can You Do?
-Get Screened: If you have diabetes, get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year.
-Manage Your Diabetes: Keep your blood sugar levels in check, along with your blood pressure and cholesterol.
-Educate Yourself and Others: Knowledge is power. Understand the signs of diabetic eye disease.

Happy Halloween from our TSO Forney family!

"Trick or Treat" is one of the most anticipated activities during Halloween, but safety should always be a priority. Here are some tips to ensure a safe and fun Halloween for everyone involved.

-Know the neighborhoods you’re visiting. Stick to well-lit areas with sidewalks.

-Avoid long costumes that might cause trips and falls.

-Make sure masks don't obstruct vision; consider makeup or face paint instead.

-Be aware of candy allergies. Carry an EpiPen if your child has severe allergies.

-Walk on sidewalks, not the street. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.

-Use crosswalks when available. Always look both ways before crossing the street, even if you're at a crosswalk.

It's that time of the year again! While you are busy picking out the perfect costume and decorations, don't forget to take care of your eyes!

Sunglasses or protective eyewear can save you from more than just UV rays. They are great for safeguarding against flying candy wrappers or costume accessories.

Use proper eye protection when pumpkin carving and handling sharp tools. Those little pumpkin seeds can be sneaky.

Make sure your vision is not impaired while navigating the streets at night. If you need glasses, don't forget to wear them!

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of vision loss and blindness, but half of people with glaucoma don’t know they have it. Glaucoma has no early symptoms.

A comprehensive eye exam is the only way to check for it. There’s no cure for glaucoma but starting treatment early can prevent vision loss.

Anyone can get glaucoma, but some people are at higher risk, including people who:
• Are over age 60
• Are Black/African American and over age 40
• Are Asian American
• Are Hispanic/Latino
• Have a family history of glaucoma

You can find out more information about Glaucoma from the National Eye Institute at

The National Eye Institute (NEI) performs and supports vision research and education programs that protect and prolong vision. Learn about eye conditions, healthy eyes, vision studies, and grants for vision research.
