Teddy, biscuit loving corgi Continuing the legacy of my brother Bertie to send love, happiness, & joy out into the world one corgi smile at a time. Bertie 🌈 12/30/2012-3/17/2026

I'm Bertie, a Texas corgi named after Queen Elizabeth's father. I dream of a world filled with biscuits for all. So does Teddy, my little brother from another mother.

Because spending funds on treats instead of over-priced gas gets my vote, our holiday "road trip" will be backing our SUV out of the garage onto the driveway and sitting there with Mom for a few minutes. Being together is what matters the most. That--and good treats.

I'm so very honored to have this chance to carry on something that was very important to my big brother. I will do my best to make Bertie, Corgi Nation, and everyone at The British Emporium proud.

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§šŸ¾ SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: MEET TEDDY! šŸ¾šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

Many of you will remember our beloved Bertie, who brought so much joy as our mascot and proudly led our Corgi Parades, including his final parade in March.

We were heartbroken when Bertie crossed the Rainbow Bridge just two days later.

Now, his brother Teddy is stepping into those very special pawprints.

It’s official! Sweet Teddy recently visited our flagship store for an inspection and a quick check of the biscuit aisle. Everything was up to corgi standards! After charming everyone he met, Teddy gave The British Emporium his seal of approval — two paws up! 🐾🐾

While no one could ever replace Bertie, we know Teddy will carry on his brother’s legacy with the same wagging tail, cheerful spirit, and royal corgi charm. šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

We’re absolutely over the moon to welcome Teddy as our honorary mascot, Parade Marshal, and occasional doorman. 😊

A big thank you to Carla, Teddy’s mum.

Please join us in giving Teddy a very warm welcome. ā¤ļø

Chalk up another first for me--fixing up a Mother's Day gift for mom. Thankfully, Sheela, the awesome owner of The British Emporium, jumped into action because I didn't have a clue what to do (this was always Bertie's job). Now thanks to her, I do; and I just know Mom's going to love what's inside this bag. Thanks again for your help, Sheela. I'm ever so grateful.

Although you've seen me here with Bertie, you don't know my "gotcha day" story. Sharing it now to help anyone looking for a pup to call their own. It began the morning Mom drove several hours to pick me up from the breeder she'd spent hours vetting--an AKC "breeder of merit" who was also a member of a corgi club, plus someone mom spoke to/corresponded with for over 2 months.

Something felt off when Mom stepped inside the breeder's house. When the breeder left the living room to get my paperwork, Mom saw the room next to it was strangely dark. Then she saw why. In it were dog-filled crates stacked nearly to the ceiling. When the breeder returned and saw where Mom was staring and mom started asking question, she removed us from her property as fast as she could.

Because of where the breeder's property was located, there was no city animal control dept. to call. So Mom called to the corgi club president who promised to investigate and take appropriate action. She also called the AKC but got no help there. When Mom circled back to the club, she was told they'd gone onsite and verified what she;d seen but rather than expel the breeder, they were working with her to do better. To this day, this breeder is still a member of that club and is still on the AKC's website as a "breeder of merit." We've no clue if this situation was resolved & mention it now only to say to vet as best you can but be realistic that you can only do your best & take an AKC merit designation with a grain of salt.

I'm the 5th corgi to join our family over the years. Mom followed the same vetting protocol every time & it had always served her well. Mom said that if she could have taken every dog out of that house she'd have done it, then and there. But all she could do was report the situation and rescue one.

I am forever grateful to be "the one." Equally grateful that Bertie loved me from the minute he saw me and was patient with me because I was understandably very scared after my early life experience. Until I started to feel safe (which took several months), Bertie let me cling to him day and night. So did mom. I am proof that love can conquer all.

Happy 100th Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II who we corgis will always love because of her love for us. Over the years, mom corresponded with Her Majesty a few times about us corgis starting with Murphy who is in the folk art painting above our fireplace in this photo of Bertie & me taken during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Hope she's having a grand party in Heaven with Bertie and all of the corgis with angel wings by her side.

This is Bertie’s mom, along with Teddy. Today, we’re sharing some of our favorite pictures of precious Bertie along with how we’re honoring his legacy moving forward. This includes:
1—Donating Bertie’s unused prescription meds to our veterinary practice for pups in financial need.
2—Donating to Operation Kindness, a local no-kill animal shelter.
3—Teddy stepping into Bertie’s role as The British Emporium's mascot and parade marshal.
4-Teddy continuing to bark big, as he did with Bertie, about Three Dog Bakery as an ambassador for their awesome treats.
5—Renewing PBS's KERA membership because of Bertie’s love of their opera and Andrea Bocelli concerts programming. In honor of the kindness to Bertie by Bill (his favorite person there), our membership will now renew every year.
6—Continuing to record every episode of NBC's Texas Today because of how wonderful everyone at the studio was to Bertie, especially Jessica.
7—Creating a corgi photo wall of fame in my home office with all 5 corgis in our family since 1990. A wall of happiness will, hopefully, help heal.
And, last but not least…
8—Continuing this page with Teddy’s help. Having given this a lot of thought (with many of you weighing in), I’ve concluded this. Bertie loved everyone with all his might but, most of all, he loved Teddy. Corgi Nation & all of you were important to Bertie, and still are to Teddy and me. Bertie was happy to share the spotlight with ā€œlittle brotherā€ because they both were about the same thing—making people happy. So this feels right, especially since the world needs love, happiness and joy more than ever. You may see the page name change slightly but our goal will be the same—to honor Bertie and what he stood for.

As the torch now passes to Teddy, I hope you’ll encourage him as he continues the good works that Bertie began. ā¤

This is Teddy with an update I hope helps you smile. Our friends, including you all, continue to deliver the most amazing amount of comfort to Mom and me. And at the perfect times. Like now, as we begin our first holiday weekend without my big brother Bertie who loved getting his Easter basket and supervising our annual corgi egg hunt.

This beautiful slate plaque just arrived from one of our wonderful friends (aka Bertie's "birthday twin") and her cool cats who I like to video chat with. Mom let me pick where place the plaque in Bertie's honor. I chose our backyard herb and rose garden that Bertie loved to hang out by. ā¤šŸ¾
