If you don’t think of as a superfood, think again. Adults eating at least 25 servings yearly had a remarkable 30% lower risk for lung according to a study out of South America. Yes, peaches are rich sources of cancer-fighting antioxidants like vitamin C, beta-cryptoxanthin, chlorogenic acid and quercetin. But they’ve also got substantial amounts of healthy . That might be key because the same study also found that people getting the most fruit-derived glutathione had 50% less risk for lung cancer. Peaches are delicious with yogurt, granola, in salad and add a great taste to smoothies.

Buckwheat is an ancient pseudo-grain which is gluten-free and loaded with antioxidants and flavonoids such as quercetin and rutin. It also contains powerful anticancer peptides which inhibited multiple types of cancer cells (breast, leukemia, liver) by 70-90% in a test tube. Perhaps that’s why a study from Asia found frequent consumers of buckwheat had an astounding 79% less risk for lung . So, consider adding more into your regular healthy diet. Who says food can’t boost immunity? Healthy adults showed a doubling of NK (natural killer) immune cells and 60% increase in gamma T lymphocytes after one month of eating 10 grams daily of dried shiitake mushrooms. That’s according to a proper randomized controlled trial run recently in the USA. The subject’s immune cells also expressed more anti-inflammatory factors and had greater “activation response.” Mushrooms are rich sources of beta-glucan, which is a type of complex sugar known to boost immune cells. Other foods contain this too, but the beta-glucan in is special because of its unique 1,6 branching structure which makes it particularly useful as an .

Sorghum is an ancient super grain that’s gaining popularity because it’s . But few people appreciate its sky-high content of : the red variety has triple that of blueberries while the black variety has 4.7-fold more. Sorghum’s true power, however, may be its unique proteins which researchers have discovered are highly toxic to cancer cells. In one recent study, sorghum proteins inhibited the growth of human breast cells by 90% and liver cancer cells by 78% in a test tube. Best of all, this ancient grain has indeed been linked to lower risk in people. An older study from China found that villages where sorghum / millet intake was higher had about 65% less throat cancer death.
