What a fantastic way to begin the week! Our partner Kimbell Art Museum shared a gem that brightens our day. This is one of many art works in their collection that will make you stop scrolling.
Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, born today in 1793, was one of Austria’s most celebrated painters.
Take a look at “Dog Guarding a Basket of Grapes” (1836) from our collection.
The painting is set in a vineyard on the outskirts of Vienna, with the Danube River and village of Heiligenstadt in the distance. Waldmüller’s mastery of light, color, and detail makes this scene come alive.
Although he influenced a generation of artists, his paintings are rarely seen in American museums. Most of his fame today remains in Europe—making this work even more special!
What do you think of Waldmüller’s style?
