"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"

Today we remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His compassion and love for humanity is something that we should all continue to strive for🤍

The first time Marine veteran Barry Burns encountered the Red Cross was after losing everything during Hurricane Katrina. He remembers being served a hot meal from an emergency response vehicle (ERV) that he says not only nourished his body but lifted his spirits.

More than 17 years later, he's the one serving hot meals to hundreds of people as an ERV driver deployed to help after Hurricane Ian. He's able to make a connection with those he's served by sharing his story.

Barry is one of more than 20,000 U.S. veterans who are Red Cross volunteers. He served his country in Vietnam as a crew chief on CH-53 Delta helicopters from 1969 to 1973. “In the military, we have to learn to work together. That type of thinking works at the Red Cross."

Rockwall County Commissioner Janet Nichol , Chief Aldridge and members of Royse City PD just had the pleasure of informing Ms. Bonnie Hannon that she was selected as this year’s Hometown Hero for the Royse City Christmas Parade of Lights. Ms. Bonnie is always spreading kindness and cheer around town and her smile is a blessing to all. In true Ms. Bonnie fashion, when we knocked on her door to tell her about the selection, she was in the kitchen making the Police Department a sweet potato pie.

Thank you Ms. Bonnie and congratulations. Come see Ms. Bonnie in the Royse City Christmas Parade the evening of December 10th.
