Alot of people dont know this, but the baby feels everything the mother feels. Every heart break, every smile, every single emotional thing. Even touch! When hugging the father and just taking that time to breath the baby can feel that love. That feeling of warmth and security. At 22 weeks the baby has started to learn voices and can tell which voice is peaceful to its mother and which voice hurts the mother. They have become aware of most sounds around them. By 26 weeks the baby can develop emotions for him or herself on feelings the mother feels. By 30 weeks the baby has picked who's voice it is most favored towards. Needless to say, dont stress yourself. Cause your baby feels it all. ❤️💕

They are two healthy babies, three months old, both exclusively breastfeeding and, believe me, neither the one on the left is obese, nor the one on the right is undernourished. They are variations of normality! Most likely, when they start crawling, the one on the left will slim down a little and the one on the right will gain muscle mass.
Do not compare your child to other children.
Each of us is different.

"Training"⠀

Night waking is biologically normal. Night weaning does not ensure no wake ups. Sleep training does NOT ensure a good sleeper.⠀

Sleep is a biological function, it cannot be forced. Just as if someone sat you on the toilet and demanded you p*e right then.⠀

"Just give him rice cereal before bed. He's almost 3 month's, he'll be fine."⠀

"Put them in bed, close the door, don't go back in until morning."⠀

"If they are so upset they throw up, go in and change the sheets. Don't make eye contact or speak to them."⠀

"She's getting too used to being comforted every time she wakes."⠀

"Get out of the house when you put him in his crib, this way you won't hear his cries."⠀

"Let them cry, they're just manipulating you."⠀

Complete. And. Utter. BS.⠀

Not to mention, DANGEROUS.⠀

And many women believe that their baby, that only wakes a few times a night for nourishment and/or comfort, has a problem that needs to be solved.⠀

Waking frequently is a protective measure against SIDS, and also helps to maintain breastfeeding. ⠀

It's expected that they need feeds throughout the night. (Have you ever doubled your weight within a few months before? Or had rapid brain development and growth, so much so that you can't even rest?)⠀

It's unrealistic to expect babies to sleep BETTER than adults. ⠀

Why do we need studies, and facts, and statistics to show how it is or is not damaging. How it is or is not ok to hold your baby to sleep, nurse your baby to sleep, rock your baby to sleep.⠀

What happened to following our instincts? What happened to parenting from and following what you feel is right and good in your heart?⠀

If you need to p*e, do you wake? If you need to adjust the covers, do you wake? Do you wake when you're thirsty, had a bad dream, need to roll over?⠀

Let's normalize normal behaviors.⠀

Babies and children don't have sleep problems.⠀

Society has expectation problems.⠀

Needing comfort isn't a problem that needs to be fixed. It's part of being human.

Epidurals... they have a place in birth, just like any intervention, but just like any intervention they also come with risks. Epidurals are not something to take lightly!

A recent study comparing first time birthing people who had an epidural vs those that did not found that those having an epidural were:

❗️were more likely to require an instrumental birth
❗️significantly greater risk of 10 hours or more first stage of labour
❗️longer second stage of labour
❗️increased likelihood of receiving IV syntocinon to augment labour
❗️increased likelihood of receiving antibiotics
❗️increased likelihood of fever
❗️half as likely to be breastfeeding at three months postpartum

No differences were observed between groups in neonatal outcomes.

Making an informed decision is key. Just with any option with birth, there’s no right or wrong decision, you decide what’s right for you and your birth. The above are risks, not certainty’s, but it’s important that you know them before choosing an option. How confident are you in understanding the risks and benefits of the options you may be offered in birth? We discuss epidurals, and other interventions and procedures in labour, in my classes. Being prepared is so very very important. If you don’t understand your options, how can you make a decision?
