It’s Not Children’s Education We Should Worry About, It’s Their Mental Health

Please pay attention!

It’s Not Children’s Education We Should Worry About, It’s Their Mental Health The debate on reopening schools largely revolves around making up for missed lessons, but education is not the most important thing children are missing when schools are closed.

MEN'S MENTAL HEALTH IS SEVERELY UNDERFUNDED

"Research on men’s health issues is given relatively low priority. Lack of funding and attention can perpetuate the mistaken belief that “no one” cares about men’s mental health.16 Men also don’t want to be a burden to others—if they can fix it on their own, they will.7 However, not discussing these feelings with family or friends can cause social isolation, exacerbate relationship difficulties, and worsen feelings of depression."

Mental Health Challenges of Parenting in 2020
Author Charryse Johnson of The Guide to Social Media Era Parenting which can be found at PowerUp Parent will discuss the correlation between increased social media usage and mental health issues with children and teenagers.

05/04/2020

Goals Don't Have Feelings with Dr. Stacia Alexander episode tonight focuses on the correlation between increased numbers of mental health challenges with our youth and the insurgence of social media outlets. Join us tonight at 7pm here on Facebook Live.

Just stop for a minute and put the puzzle pieces together to see the big picture.

🧩 Eighth-graders who spend 10 or more hours a week on social media are 56% more likely to report being unhappy than those who spend less time.
🧩 Heavy users of social media increase their risk of depression by 27 percent.
🧩 Youtube is widely viewed by teens as a positive force, but teens report Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram increase feelings of anxiety
🧩 Teens who spent three or more hours a day on electronic devices were 28% more likely to get less than seven hours of sleep, and teens who visited social media sites every day were 19% more likely not to get adequate sleep.

Yes, Pastor, you need counseling!
I searched high and low for a database simply for pastors to utilize for professional psychological and counseling services.
I did not locate a single one.
Do you know why? Because you are a human being, pastor and ministry leader, and you can locate a professional clinician to fit your specific needs just as the rest of us.
Be careful of denying yourself the humanity of your being. God knows you are handling the weight of your congregation on your shoulders and juggling so many balls at once that often someone in your flock will lament, "Pastor, I don't know how you do it all."
But your family knows. And your family sees. And, at some point, the world will see that the weight of the congregation is a lot to bear.
Do yourself a favor and get some counseling.
Here are some resources where you can filter out the variables you want for a counselor.
✔️ Faith based
✔️ Male
✔️ Female
✔️ Takes insurance
✔️ Teletherapy
✔️ Trauma Trained
✔️ Grief focused
You can choose.

As Su***de Rates For Black Children Rise, Protecting Emotional Heath Is Vital • EBONY

I did a research paper on childhood su***de years ago while working on master's degree (1994). The professor gave me a B on the assignment explaining I was instructed to document a critical problem in the mental health field. At that time, he saw little value in childhood su***de. If I had known the term "kick rocks," I probably would have told him so. STOP IGNORING CHILDHOOD DEPRESSION!
1) Pay attention to your child's moods and behaviors
2) Stop making others activities a priority over their mental health.
3) You slow down and make time
4) Schedule an appointment and get your child some help.

Mental Health in Schools: A Crisis Affecting Millions of Students Every Day

Mental Health in Schools: A Crisis Affecting Millions of Students Every Day
It makes absolutely no sense for every school to ignore the need for mental health on campus.

1. Every school should have a counselor on site.
2. Advisory programs should be implemented in middle and high schools across the nation.
3. Schools should work with educating the parents AND students regarding mental health and its triggers.
