There’s a lot happening in the world right now and it can feel overwhelming. How do you stop racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of hatred in the world as a kid? Well, this video is for you. Zandra L. Ellis, MA, LCDC - Rise Above Counseling Services, PLLC (she/they) shares tips and tricks on how you can create more equity in your friends and fight against hate while still having fun.
Foundation 45 supports Black Lives Matter and believes that everyone deserves access to mental healthcare.

We also understand that due to generational trauma and the fall-out from years upon years of overt systemic racism and microaggressions, that Black and POC conmunities have different experiences than white people when it comes to mental health.

Zandra L. Ellis, MA, LCDC - Rise Above Counseling Services, PLLC is one of our amazing co-founders and therapists, and she leads a weekly free group therapy session (currently virtual due to Covid-19). Info on session times is available at www.foundation45.org, and on our FB and Instagram pages as well.

Stay as safe as you can, and remember that we love you. ❤️🖤

Hi My Name is Ally

06/04/2020

By Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., 16 April 1963

"First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your m**hods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

What it's like to be anxious || My little anxiety friend!

HEY ERRYBODY! This is Zandra, your friendly neighborhood counselor who likes to say “f**k”. I sometimes see that it’s hard to explain to anxiety to those who do not suffer from it chronically. PS, I say suffer in a non-shaming way because... well... IT IS miserable. The s**t ain’t fun. Anxiety is like a painful hangnail. It’s just there out of nowhere and hangs on random things while giving you painful reminders. Yep. It’s a hangnail. So, if you ever run into someone who just doesn’t seem to get it, here’s a handy-dandy video that explains it in the simplest of terms. It will either make them leave awkwardly and they will never speak on it again (low-key win) OR it will give an opportunity to talk about how they can best help (high-key win). If said person is still refuses to get it or care, ask yourself why do you still have them around. They are obviously not good for your anxiety and just may be a source of stress. Hope this helps! ❤️, Zandra

Poverty is a story about us, not them - Microsoft News

"Too often still, we think we know what poverty looks like.

It’s the way we’ve been taught, the images we’ve been force-fed for decades.

The chronically homeless.

The undocumented immigrant.

The urban poor, usually personified as a woman of color, the “welfare queen” politicians still too often reference.

But as income inequality rises to record levels in the United States, even in the midst of a record economic expansion, those familiar images are outdated, hurtful, and counterproductive to focusing attention on solutions and building ladders of opportunity.

Today’s faces of income inequality and lack of opportunity look like, well… all of us."
