This week we are sharing Shoulderstand Pose (aka Sarvangasana)! Shoulderstand improves blood flow to the brain; nourishes the complexion; stimulates the thyroid; promotes calm and serenity.

1. Lie on your back, arms by your side, palms down. Align your body.
2. Bend knees and roll hips over shoulders.
3. Use your hands to support your back at the waist.
4. Extend legs up. Brings hands higher on your back and move elbows closer together.
5. Stretch your legs, straighten your back. Don’t move your head. Hold for a few minutes.
6. Release slowly by bending legs and rolling back down.

*Note: skip this post if you have thyroid problems, high blood pressure, or glaucoma

This week we are sharing Bridge Pose (aka Setu Bandhasana)! Bridge pose increases flexibility in the back and shoulders; stretches and relieves tension in the neck; and strengthens the leg muscles.

1. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet near buttocks and hip width apart. If possible, touch heels with your hands.
2. Contract your buttocks; curl your pelvis toward the ceiling, pressing your back into the floor.
3. Slowly lift your lower, middle, and upper back; raise hips to ceiling. Weight is on your shoulders and feet. Hold.
4. Release by lowering the spine one vertebrae at a time. Relax.

This week we are sharing Reclined Pigeon Pose (aka Supta Kapotasana)! Reclined pigeon opens the hips and lubricates hip joints; massages and cleanses inner organs; frees shoulders and helps with any stiffness in the neck.

1. Lie on your back with both knees bent, head on the floor.
2. Cross your left leg over your right thigh. Center ankle bone on right knee. Bring your left arm through the space between your legs and around right thigh. Clasp hands.
3. Draw right thigh toward your chest. Move left knee away from your body.
4. Hold for several breaths. As you exhale, draw right thigh slightly closer to your body.
5. Unclasp hands; undo legs. Repeat on the other side.

This week we are sharing Bow Pose (aka Dhanursána)! Bow massages the abdominal organs and improves digestion; stimulates the thyroid and opens the chest; strengthens the back; and tones the thighs and buttocks.

1. Lie on your stomach.
2. Bend knees, bringing feet toward buttocks. Reach back and grasp your ankles (one at a time is fine).
3. Inhale and slowly raise your head, feet, and knees.
4. Gently rock back and forth without pulling or straining. Breathe
5. Hold for 30 to 60 seconds.
6. Exhale; release your hands. Slowly lower and straighten your legs.
7. Relax in Child pose, a good counterbalance.
