The lunch time breakout session in the TEDxAtlanta Refresh Room is with Dorsey Standish of Mastermind Meditate. 🧘♀️🧘🧘♂️
Begin at the Beginning with your health: learn how mental fitness is a key part of total health and well-being. As a neuroscientist and mindfulness expert, Dorsey will share information on the brain health benefits of mindfulness, lead you in a rejuvenating mindful meditation practice, and discuss key takeaways for mindful living. This session will inspire you to change yourself, and the world around you, beginning with your own brain health.
Dorsey Standish is the CEO and Chief Mindfulness Officer of Mastermind, a Dallas-based gym for your brain. Dorsey is a mechanical engineer, neuroscientist, and wellness expert who brings evidence-based mindfulness meditation to clients nationwide. Dorsey has shared science-based mindfulness solutions with hundreds of companies, including Staples, Deloitte, United Way, Peloton, and Pier 1. Dorsey’s teachings draw on her training as a teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction through Brown University and her deep experience on regular seven-day silent meditation retreats studying with master teachers.

This year, we’ve curated an powerful and eclectic lineup including our very own co-founder Carissa Kubitz teaching qigong 🌬, Dorsey Standish of Mastermind Meditate leading a mindful lunch and coffee break ☕️, and Claudia Yaffa of Yaffa Well and Faith of leading an afternoon yoga and sound bowl session! 🙏💞 The purpose of this sensory detox space known as the ReFresh Room is to provide a place for the body and mind to unwind and decompress and in turn, more fully process the new information presented during the TEDx sessions. When Vibe Hive introduced this to TEDxAtlanta in 2019, it was an in-person event, with elements that ignited all the senses (sight, touch, sound, taste, smell). While the 2021 ReFresh Room is a virtual space, we are still offering a full sensory experience. This space offers a balance and alternative to the bustling energy buzzing in the conference space and provides event attendees the opportunity to get the most out of their TEDxAtlanta experience.��

Practice being bored or mind-wandering. You may be asking, why boredom? Isn't that the opposite of the productivity of creativity?
It's part of the process - Boredom is linked to increased creativity through activation of the Default Mode Network in the brain. When you're not TRYING to achieve a goal, and just take everything in, as it is and in the moment, your mind shifts.

This week, try turning off the screens and just take everything in. Get outside in nature or spend play time with kids and/or pets. Being bored isn't as bad for you as you think!
