Meet our Kalindi Dinoffer, CO-FOUNDER. Kalindi is a 200 hour certified yoga instructor in the Hatha tradition, who studied under Jennifer Hensley at Lotus Yoga Dallas. She started practicing yoga when injuries and chronic pain issues from her years as a competitive athlete began to catch up with her and she found yoga to be very helpful on her path to bringing her body into better balance. She believes in a holistic approach to health and wellness and helps guide her students to listen to their bodies and explore their own mind body connection on and off the mat.

Hey! This month we would like to honor and share a bit about our own Camille Cortinas. We love you, Camille! So glad you've been with us every step of this smooooooth journey. 🎤❤️ Check out the interview... #belowdeck #lambphoto #captainandcamille

Name: Camille Cortinas

Instrument(s): Vocals, guitar

Favorite song to perform in the band?

"We Just Disagree by Dave Mason"

How did you get into Music? And what role does it play in your life?

"I found cassettes of me singing as early as 5. My Grandma Cortinas always encouraged me to sing out, and in her kind mind there was no bad note. As most grandparents are with their grandchildren, she loved everything I did. I was given no reason to feel bashful. She's one of the reasons why I always trusted in my ability to sing.

Flash Forward – I’ve been doing freelance vocal work for almost 10 years, varying from original material to jingles and voice-overs. I have most of my resume logged on my outdated LinkedIn account: https://www.linkedin.com/in/camille-cortinas-79084246 A notable commercial would be the Hot Pockets jingle. Yes, that’s me and yes, I’ve heard that Jim Gaffigan skit.

I’m proud to work with a lot of production companies and recording artists in town. I still write and perform original material, but my last solo release was in 2011. (Camille Cortinas – Taken Apart )http://open.spotify.com/album/6SK6pGyZNnUS4FdoEstqrC So excited to report that the writing buzz has returned and am recording new material this year."

How is the Camille we see on stage different than the Camille in everyday life?

"Well, usually the Camille on stage has her worried/over analytical thinking cap off. On stage you’re getting a genuinely relaxed and on the spot experience. I spend most of the week wrapped up in crazy pursuits so while weekend shows are in fact work, it's also an opportunity to unwind and enjoy my surroundings."

What things about the 70s do you wish were true about today?

"Well, I LOVE love and it’s nice when it’s free."

If you could share the stage with a 70's super-group, who would it be and why?

"Probably Fleetwood Mac, because who wouldn’t want to be a fly on that scarf?" (Editor’s note: the editor would not want to be)

Any other cool things about you?

"In 2011 I started Yims Foods with the help from my mother, Judy Cortinas. We are a pickle and jam business based in Dallas. Fellow C&C band mate, John, handles all our clever designs and graphics. This operation wouldn’t have sustained itself had it not been for the help of my family and friends. My weekdays I wake up with either Lotus Yoga Dallas or Master LEE'S Taekwondo Academy to kick me out of bed, and spend most days building inventory for our retail stores and Good Local Markets White Rock markets. So all of that biz along with John & Camille shows and full band C&C shows, I’d say I have a healthy schedule.

I also love animals and have worked with several shelters and rescue groups over the years. I'm a firm believer that every life counts in animal rescue, and even if you can't adopt there are plenty of ways to contribute at the level you can. Matt and I adopted our dog, Omar, through a rescue group last year. He was hit by a car, broke 2 legs and shattered his pelvis. I saw this WFAA story https://www.wfaa.com/article/life/heartwarming/dallas-officers-save-dogs-life-after-it-was-hit-by-car/287-552080784 and cried myself to sleep wishing I could give that pup all my love. The following day I filled out an application to foster, and we eventually adopted him. Sweet boy has made a full recovery and continues to make our lives brighter by the day.

Captain and Camille has participated in galas and fundraising events for several non-profits and organizations in the DFW area. Our connection to our community is very important to us, and I'd love to offer our talents more in the future. Last year we performed at a Gala for Chase's Place (http://www.chasesplace.org/), a non-profit school for children with special needs. This group is near and dear to me. When free time allows, I love to sing and visit with the kids.

So if you or someone you know is looking for a band to help liven their event, maybe we can join forces. Can you imagine a C&C dunking booth at an Animal Rescue Fundraiser? Or, maybe a USO tour with The Lt. Dan Band! https://www.ltdanband.com/ A girl can dream, can't she?"

If for example, Eugene is the swagger of the band, and Michelle is the spirit, would you say that you are the heart?

"I'd love to be the heart of the matter. ha ha. Actually here's a fun heart fact: at 21 years old I underwent open heart surgery. The day after my 21st birthday I went to the doctor for an unrelated foot injury and was diagnosed with atrial septal defect. It’s a defect caused by a hole in the wall between the heart’s upper chambers. The hole in my heart was about the size of a silver dollar and would have continued to expand had it not been detected. Talk about a defining moment in a person’s life. I quite often lead with my heart, so it's good that we were able to patch it up and in good working condition."

What band achievements are you most proud of?

"After five years of playing music together I’m impressed with our ability to stay a well-oiled machine. This band has seven equal parts that contribute to create a large smooth Transformer. While we do try to honor and stay true to the songs, we offer our own personal bend to them, as well. Together this group has a capability to stir a positive energy, and it spreads infectiously to our crowds. And doubled when alcohol is present :)

Each year performing with this group has been better than the previous. It’s a close circle, and we are constantly challenging ourselves creatively and together have learned to navigate the music world in honest fashion. Although these songs have been heard before, this is a group of originals. I’m proud of this band, the happiness it conjures for each of us and the opportunity to share it with others. We can all afford to smile more."
Betsy?
Happy New Year! Maybe we could try this in 2019.
Bwahahaha!
Do you have any use for 10 brand new extra long tube socks to make noodles? I could only find a 6-pair pack and I'm only keeping one pair.

Susan was excited to share her recent experience with her blood pressure. Her habit had been to watch the news in the evening and even though she’d been sitting, her blood pressure was high before bed. She attended 6:30 Restorative last Wednesday and avoided the news. Sure enough, her blood pressure was not just normal, it was in the lower normal range. She had gotten out of the habit of her mid-week class but she is determined to get back on track. Join her Wednesdays, with the lovely teacher Susan, for the best before bed, love your heart habit. 💗

Half (half splits) is an effective stretch for the quads, hamstrings and IT band. It’s a great post walk, run or ride stretch coupled with a hip opener, like pigeon.

Wellness is when the mind and body are in harmony. The vagus nerve plays an important role in almost every organ system of the body. Activities like yoga, meditation, laughing and singing stimulate the vagus nerve, promoting healthy vagal tone: good digestion, healthy blood pressure and blood sugar, a calm mind and positive attitude.
