What has been your best Halloween costume of all time?
My best Halloween costume of all time was a Mardi Gras ballroom dress costume---it was feathery, colorful and festive!

Zika in Texas 08/24/2016

Zika in Texas

As of Aug. 24, Texas has had 127 reported cases of the Zika virus disease according to Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). This count includes three pregnant women, two infants infected before birth and one person who contracted the virus through sexual contact. These infections were not transmitted from mosquitoes in our area, but acquired as a result of travel to countries where infected mosquitoes are documented, which now includes the U.S. with infected mosquitoes in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

As you plan outside events with your family and friends, please remember that personal protection is essential to reduce the risk of infection. Consider all of the preventive measures you can take.

• Limit outdoor activities when possible.
• Cover up with long sleeves and pants.
• Wear EPA-approved insect repellent.
• Drain all standing water in and around your home.
• Use window screens and/or air conditioning to keep mosquitoes out of your home.
• Take precautions against sexual transmission by using condoms.
• Avoid travel to regions where the Zika virus is active.
• Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Visit www.TexasZika.org for continuous Zika updates, resources and materials; check out Texas Health’s Well Being blog and view video clips for expert insight and advice.

Zika in Texas Zika virus is primarily spread to people through mosquito bites. The virus can be spread from mother to child. Spread of the virus through blood transfusion and sexual contact has also been reported.
