Inside the Operating Room -
This is the precise moment of an aortic valve replacement. The sutures are anchored around the patient’s aortic annulus and threaded through the sewing ring of the new prosthetic valve before it is lowered down into the aorta. The surgical technique used here is a minimal invasive approach through the right chest avoiding the traditional midline sternotomy. This method potentially allows for a faster recovery, a smaller incision with less pain, and a shorter hospital stay.

This past week marked a new achievement for the Heart Hospital Baylor Denton as we launched our Robotic Thoracic Program. Using the DaVinci Robot, we are able to perform minimal invasive lung resection surgery and other thoracic surgeries for patients to leave the hospital sooner and experience a faster recovery.

Congratulations to The Heart Hospital Baylor Denton and the Structural Valve Team on completing the very first Transfemoral Aortic Valve Replacement in Denton County today. This procedure allows patients with severe aortic stenosis to have their aortic valve replaced without needing to have open heart surgery, making recovery much quicker, safer, and accessible to those who may not qualify for surgery. Proud to be part of this team and of service to Denton County.
