I have the incredible honor of getting to travel down to Houston today to speak at this wonderful event.
I invite you to join me in this wave of light, from wherever you are, in lighting a candle at 7:00pm in your time zone, in honor and memory of my Ella and all babies gone too soon.
For anyone in the Houston area:
The Isabel Davis Center for Safe Children announces the Wave of Light Memorial Service: Honoring Our Beloved Children.
Join us for an evening of remembrance and reflection at the Wave of Light Memorial Service, a special gathering dedicated to honoring the lives of infants lost too soon. This global event, observed annually on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, brings together bereaved families and loved ones to share in collective memory, support, and healing. As candles are lit at 7:00 PM in each time zone, we create a worldwide wave of light, symbolizing the enduring love and cherished memories of those forever missed.
Event Agenda
Date: October 15, 2024
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Location: Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Reflection Pool at Memorial Hermann Park in Houston, TX
• 6:00 PM: Welcome and Opening Remarks
• 6:15 PM: Grief and Support Discussion
There is no expectation for contribution. Just being here is enough.
• 6:30 PM: Parent Reflections and Tribute Activity
We invite parents to share their stories, memories, and thoughts. We offer an alternative activity for those who prefer a more private moment: writing your child’s name and placing it into a memory box. This activity allows everyone to contribute meaningfully.
• 6:45 PM: Musical Tribute
• 7:00 PM: Wave of Light Ceremony
We will distribute LED candles to all attendees and turn them on together to join the global wave of light. After a moment of silence, participants may take their candles home as a token of remembrance.
• 7:15 PM: Closing and Fellowship
We invite attendees to stay for refreshments and the opportunity to connect with others. Our team will be available for those seeking support or wanting to talk. This is a time for community and reflection, offering a space for healing and shared experiences.
This event is free and open to all bereaved families, friends, and community members who wish to honor the memory of their loved ones. We ask attendees to bring their stories, memories, and love as we come together in solidarity. While all are welcome, we recommend only children over three years of age.
The Isabel Davis Center for Safe Children is a joint Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital venture aimed at ending Sudden Unexpected Death in Pediatrics (SUDP) and supporting families in the time of loss. The Center supports a comprehensive research program that touches on all aspects of Sudden Unexpected Death in Pediatrics including Genetics and Genomics, Physiology, Epidemiology, Exposomics, and diagnostic and therapeutic development. The Center also provides services to bereaved families including support and memorialization services.
