One form of meditation is to sit and relax in nature or to look outside from a comfortable spot.

Enjoy the beauty of the sunset, the flowers, and the birds singing. Most of us know that when we speak gently and lovingly to plants and play soothing music, they thrive. They need the kindness as much as they need water, sun and fertilizer. In fact, I rarely fertilize my plants. The love seems to act as sufficient fertilizer, creating beautiful blooms for many years. Now we know that trees are good for human health and well-being. They communicate with each other and even have a heartbeat. In our current time of isolation and social distancing, people who live alone have an added burden. Some health care providers are suggesting that people hug trees for this very reason. We seem to be discovering something that the Native American people have always known. Some tribes even call trees, Tree People. Japan has been using Forest Bathing since the 1980’s so successfully that other countries, including the United States, have adopted the practice. Recent research shows that trees cause a reduction in blood pressure, stress, anxiety, and depression along with improved immune systems, sleep, creativity, memory and concentration. Just using a computer screen saver with a picture of nature reduces stress by 10%. That’s how strong the healing power of nature is. There’s a reason we use the term Mother Nature. She nurtures us.

🪴Machu Picchu is familiar to most of us. The Andes is also home to several equally important sacred places with a rich shamanic tradition from the Incas. Their power is even greater today due to changes in the earth’s vibrational field in the Andes. The higher frequencies are creating a planetary shift in consciousness there that is opening our hearts globally. We are preparing to receive the energies of joy, sweetness, and freedom. The pandemic and the resulting lockdown gave the earth, plants, animals, and our air quality time to recover and regenerate. It also gave us an opportunity to slow down, examine our lives, determine what is most important to us, who we are, and why we are here. The Andean shamanic tradition helps us connect to our authentic self and the universal principles of love, reciprocity, and gratitude.

🌺 Indigenous peoples foretold the upheaval and chaos we are experiencing now as part of a worldwide shift into higher consciousness. Leaders, teachers, healers and lightworkers are being prepared to usher in, as Jonathan says, “new ways of being—ways that include cooperation, generosity, sustainability, compassion, and love.” To do so, we must first attend to our own healing. Jonathan explains “…Shamanism is not ‘spooky’ or ‘other-worldly.’ It is a practical, down-to-earth, spiritual path that was designed to help us learn to live and love well.” It helps us transform our thoughts, intentions and beliefs into ways to heal ourselves. We can use these tools to heal trauma, pain and dysfunctional patterns, achieving wholeness, harmony and an openness to love. As co-creators of the world, we then energetically spread the love to others and the world.

Be Positive

The person we judge the most is ourselves.

Listen for the ways in which you criticize yourself and others.

When you think or hear a negative thought, turn it into a positive. For instance, replace “I’m stupid” with “I know a lot of things.”

I suggest taking this one step further and removing the negative thought from your mind. Imagine a pink trash can with a lid. Physically take the thought out of your head, put it in the trash can, and see yourself turning it over to God or Goddess, putting the lid on tightly, and asking that the negative energy be transmuted and sent back to you as love or acceptance or whatever you need. Keep doing this until the thought is gone forever. Depending on how ingrained it is, it may take months or longer. The key is to not give up. We all have layers of negative thoughts that have built up over years. The older the thought is, the deeper it is and the longer it takes to remove. Know that you will succeed in removing it if you keep working at it. Stay committed to your own mental health, peace of mind, and happiness. If you need help with motivation, find a friend to partner with or form a group, and please keep track of your progress. Notice small and big changes in your thinking and celebrate your victories. Learning to love ourselves with positive thoughts takes time, and it is worth the effort.

🌺 We've all heard about eating disorders, but disordered eating is new. Yet, intuitively, we all know what it means. More of us have an unhealthy relationship to food and our body than have a healthy one. Now that's just not right! More than a third are obese and another third, mostly Baby Boomers, are overweight. Even more shocking, if that's possible, are these statistics: 57% of Millennials obsess that they eat too much; 91% of female college students diet; and 95% of all dieters regain their lost weight within 5 years. This obsession with food, weight and our body image is literally killing us. It is harmful physically, emotionally and mentally creating illness, shame, stress, body-hatred and self-recrimination. And it isn't just a woman's problem. 1 in 10 cases of eating disorders are attributed to men and that doesn't include disordered eating. We can stop these harmful patterns.
