April 2024 Book Review

Now I wanted to wait to drop this review only because these novels are a) written by the same author and b) are both intertwined in subject matter thus play off each other. I would definitely advise anyone to make sure to read both books. The first novel to be published by this author She Comes First by Ian Kerner, Ph.D.

As women everywhere will attest, men are “ill-cliterate.” But in the pages of She Comes First, the mystery of female satisfaction is solved, and the tongue is proven mightier than the sword. According to Ian Kerner- s*x therapist and evangelist of the female orgasm-oral s*x isn’t just foreplay, It’s coreplay, and is simply the best way to lead a woman through the entire process of arousal time and time again.

This statement resonated so true as I read through this well written novel. So as I progressed through the pages on a man’s clinical perspective on intimacy, physical arousal, and postponing self gratification for the sake of her pleasure it made me wonder about the people in my circle. So I would ask a few friends about their level of s*xual gratification in giving oral stimulation. The answers would range but the basic idea is the same. Most women need “coreplay” above all else to get the engine going. Yes, we will cater to the whimes of our partner for argument sake in the heat of the moment but how many women can attest to faking it…? Well, no need to speak all at once, this novel will give its reader a step by step guide on the who, what, when, where, and how “coreplay” is a must for lovers in all stages of life. Once you pick this book up it will be hard to lay down the same way again ever again.

The Evolution of Desire by David M. Buss and Greg Tremblay

“Desire”-a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.

Human desire has always played center stage in the ideas and motives for all of human existence. Whether that passion strings from s*xual fantasies to political gain all acts are based on this primitive need to concur those elements we all so yearn for in life. This book dives deep into that idea not just from an emotional viewpoint but also from a scientific stance to back up all relative findings of what makes men and women so different in what they want in a mate.

Ok, so stay with me. Don’t let all the data and literal lingo deter you. It may seem like a lot of information to digest but it's great stuff to back up all the findings on the age old idea that humans base their modern day mating styles on primitive instinct.

For example, women instinctively choose partners keenly on their abundant resources and finances rather than physical attraction. Ever wonder why a beautiful woman would settle down with a below average looking man, Bingo! Vice versa…a man’s need to succeed in life is subconsciously linked to catching the attention of an exceptionally beautiful woman because men, a visual and being, aesthetically pleasing looking women will hold a man’s interest for the long howl.
This revelation also rains for same-s*x couples. Each partner is looking for security and social gain relative to their other half.

As I was listening to this book, I would find myself thinking of the Discovery channel and the various mating rituals that all living organisms go through. Some can be quite extravagant yet it's all in the name of finding the ideal mate. The observation can be said for humans in the fact that all our theories on love, s*x, and passion can be all wrapped into the quest of desire. Procreating to carry on strong genes for the next generation and securing an unbreakable companion to raise children and live out our life.

With dating apps, social conformatives in the s*xes, and gender roles being entwined it can sometimes feel as if humans have changed their programming, Yet, it seems that that society may have evolved but human desires have remained the same.
