I know this has been posted on other groups, but I have personal stories as to why this topic is so important. Our little ones need us to advocate for them:

Let’s have a discussion about laundry detergent, more specifically - baby laundry detergent! 👶🏼

You’re going to want to hear this! 👂🏼🤯

Did you know Dreft laundry detergent for babies is the #1 best selling detergent brand for newborns but also ranked the #1 most TOXIC ☢️ detergent according to www.ewg.org (fun fact: you can also check other laundry detergent brands through this website- YES, I know there have been some discrepancies about EWG but I still feel that it can be a very useful guide when it comes to researching ingredients & their toxicity!)

❗Dreft scores an ‘F’ on the EWG’s guide to clean living. F as in the WORST grade you can receive in school!! (A to F)

This toxic detergent that specifically targets newborns and young infants is considered to cause concerns for asthma/respiratory issues and moderate concerns for developmental and reproductive toxicity. WHAT? 🤯😨 This is NOT okay!

This is a perfect example of why it’s CRITICAL to know what’s in the products you use! Personal care products, such as laundry detergent fall under the Food, Drug & Cosmetic act which has not been largely updated since 1938. There have been 85,000 chemicals introduced to the marketplace since WWII. The FDA does not regulate or inspect these products at all. 🚫🚫🚫

A $65 billion dollar industry with little to no regulation. 😵‍💫

Please be your own advocate and more importantly for our younger generations by doing your research into what’s in these products! 👶🏼👧🏼🧒🏽👦🏼

The good news? 🎉 Young Living is truly the most transparent company and they offer the safest laundry detergent for you and your littlest of family members. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

And if you didn’t know, in the past I’ve posted details of how to make this last even longer - get your monies worth from this highly concentrated powerhouse.

Remember perfumes, even calming ones, do better with three different notes.

Let the peace begin! 😉

On the way home we had a tour of another farm. St Marie’s was Young Living’s first farm, which started back in 1992. It’s located one hour from Coeur d’Alene a little south of the lake. It’s so hidden away that Google sent us up a dirt road, but thankfully, with a little team work and lots of prayers, we were able to turn around and not get stuck up the mountain. Our car is not designed for any type of off roading. 😳

This farm grows Lavender, Melissa (a species of Lemon Balm) and Goldenrod, and you can tell with the aroma the difference between oil grown here and other locations. We know because we did some smell testing! And we all preferred the oil grown here, so we got some 😁

The girls got to see how small lavender seeds are and how they manually got hundreds of thousands of them into a jar. The Melissa seeds are even smaller. Melissa also had fund learning how particular the Melissa plant can be to get a good quality oil. I don’t think she appreciated me comparing her personality to the plant.

This farm is beautiful and so peaceful, which can only improve when everything is blooming!

Heads up…they removed the 15 year old Lavender plants located in one field and will be planting new ones, but it takes 3 years until they will be mature enough to produce the good stuff…this process takes so much patience!

This afternoon we headed north to teach the girls more about the wonders God has provided us in nature.

We took a free tour around Young Living’s Highland Flats Farm and Distillery in Idaho (so close to Canada). Even though they weren’t distilling anything today, Mario, Gabriella and Sabrina did a marvelous job of showing and teaching us so much.

Who knew that the oil from distilling Blue Spruce is PINK? I didn’t! We also tested Grand Fir (green), and White Fir (yellow) as well as Evergreen.

Micheal loved all the machinery and technical talk and the girls loved comparing aromas! The conversations with the lab manager and seeing the lab instrumentation reinforced the importance of having professionals test the quality and purity of any oil. You really do need to know what you’re looking for. Their machines were cutting edge and provided extremely detail reports that only limited labs are designed to complete. Most don’t understand the complexity of essential oils or even have a “control” oil for comparing results.

The essential oil world is still a growing business, so whatever company you get your oils from please get out to their farms and see all the hard work that goes behind producing safe and effective essential oils. Warning: If they don’t let you see and experience what they are doing on the farms all the way to the final product, chances are something very sketchy is going on! It’s so sad and quite frankly scary what’s being sold as an essential oil to unsuspecting consumers these days.

Of course, we had to go via the store on the way out to stock up on goodies such as Pain Cream (to support my knee from all the walking on rough terrain) and NingXia Zyng (the wake me up bubbly without all the nasty ingredients of soda pop) for our journey home. It’s what has been keeping me awake with all the driving we have been doing of late and the girls love it too. 😁

We even saw all the facilities for those that want to go up there and join in the Winter Harvest. I was quite impressed, and think even I could survive the extremely cold temperatures they experience 🤪

21 States…Not bad for our little Texans!

The girls got to color in four more states after our latest road trip. And we have another exciting trip planned where they will get to visit another four by the end of the year (maybe more).

We’re on track to visit them all before they finish school and they get to choose where they each want to live.

It’s also turning out better than expected to watch their coloring skills improve over time 🤪

A couple of extra essentials needed when camping:

A variety of tea bags and a way to boil water. So relaxing, especially during the beautiful mornings we have had.

A travel diffuser. This one only needs a USB port and fits in the cup holder in the car - perfect for hotels and cars, but also when enjoying the outdoors. The bugs here in Ohio have been loving me! I’m so thankful Micheal had the idea to plug it in while we were relaxing - if only he had thought of it before I was biten alive! Super glad I don’t travel without Citronella and my Purification EOs. Also I’ve been pouring on Lavender for all the after bite drama 🤪

■ A CANISTER OF DISINFECTING WIPES ■

Every year, there is one item on the school supply list that doesn't sit well with me. An item that states on the packaging "keep out of reach of children. "

It's not the teacher or custodian using this school list item, it's the children using them to wipe down their desks in an effort to show them how to tidy up.
While I don't disagree with the intention, I am disgusted at the requested product.

The school shopping list is not something that I was EVER willing to compromise my standards in ingredient awareness for, and neither should you!

What item am I talking about?
"Clorox Wipes" or "Lysol Wipes"

KEY INGREDIENTS:
• Hexoxyethanol
a known skin irritant and according to the European Chemicals Agency, it is classified as "harmful when in contact with skin and when swallowed. It can also cause skin burns and serious eye damage." (While I understand our children won't be drinking from this canister, how may littles ones do you see touch all the things and then, put their hands in their mouth? How about touch all the things, and then rub their eyes?) The findings further concluded that "Hexoxyethanol was also known to cause kidney injury and depression. It is also a severe respiratory tract irritant and has known blood effects. It may enter the body through ingestion, aerosol inhalation, and through the skin."

• Isopropanol (Isopropyl alcohol)
a known skin and respiratory irritant that affects the central nervous system. Poisoning has been reported through inhalation.

• Fragrance
A blanket term that houses nearly 3,000 chemicals, many of which have been grandfathered in during the 80's and lack the requirement for complete disclosure thanks to the TSCA. Short term toxicity can include coughing, skin irritation, rash, wheezing, headaches and nausea. Long term toxicity can include cancer, lung disease, heart disease and reproductive disorders. Many of the chemicals housed under this blanket term: Frangrance, are known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.

So, the question is, Are YOU comfortable looking the other way for this item?

I didn't think so.
So ..... what is a green momma to do?
PROVIDE A NON TOXIC OPTION!

DID YOU KNOW..... that the EPA has long stated that 3 - 5% food grade hydrogen peroxide IS an acceptable disinfectant replacement for bleach?

Hydrogen Peroxide: disinfectant
Thieves Household Cleaner: cleaning agent

Here is how I mix my surface cleaner in a 14 ounce spray bottle
•8 oz hydrogen peroxide
•4 oz water
•2 ounces Thieves Household Cleaner

I have standards, and I'm not about to compromise them.
Will YOU join me on the "anti Clorox wipe ditch the toxins so I am giving the teacher thieves and paper towels instead challenge?"

HERE IS WHAT I ALWAYS PROVIDED:
•2 Rolls of Paper Towels
•1 Diluted Spray bottle ready for cleaning as made above.

👇
School supply drop offs are beginning soon, and this is what I had offered EVERY year in place of the toxic canister of disinfecting wipes.
And in the 12 years I had done this, I never once heard an objection.
I did however, get many "Thank-You's."

•Stand up for what you believe in.
•Don't look the other way.
•Choose better.

Yesterday after a very windy lunch on Route 66 in Conway, Missouri (at least one child’s food plate blew away 😳), the rains poured on us all the way through Illinois. And when I say ‘pour’, that’s a huge understatement. We had to change some outdoor fun due to not wanting to get any wetter and the weather slowing us down. But at least we still got a good dinner break at a Cracker Barrel. That’s a restaurant we haven’t been into since driving through Amarillo and another section of Route 66 when the girls were toddlers.

Now we find ourselves in Indianapolis, Indiana. The sun is finally shining again and we are all semi rested so ready to take on a new day.
