Recipe Testing at James Madison High School

This summer, our Menu Team, led by Chef Lwito, visited James Madison High School to conduct recipe testing with students. During the event, students had the opportunity to sample our new Chicken Parmesan served with a fresh Market Salad.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, and students shared valuable feedback that will help us continue improving our menus. Events like these allow us to involve students directly in the menu development process, ensuring that we create meals that are both nutritious and appealing.

By listening to student preferences and exploring new ways to make healthy foods more enjoyable, we demonstrate our commitment to providing high-quality dining experiences. This collaborative approach helps us continually enhance our offerings and reinforces our dedication to serving meals that students are excited to eat.

Feliz 5 de mayo!

05/01/2026

To our incredible school lunch heroes at Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services—

There are no words big enough to truly thank you for what you do. Every single day, you show up with care, dedication, and heart to make sure our children are nourished, supported, and ready to learn. What might seem like a simple meal is, for so many students, a moment of comfort, stability, and kindness.

This recognition may be for one day, but your impact lasts the entire school year—and far beyond. You are part of our children’s daily lives, their routines, their smiles, and their well-being. You help fuel not just their bodies, but their confidence and their future.

Please know how deeply appreciated you are. What you do matters more than you may ever realize. Thank you for feeding our kids—and for caring for them like they’re your own.

With gratitude and respect,
Thank you for everything you do.

The Menu team from FCNS visited the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center to conduct a taste test of potential new menu items. Students had the opportunity to sample a variety of foods, including chicken salad, mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce, and the Harvest of the Month item—kale chips.

One classroom of students participated in the tasting and provided feedback on these items. Overall, the response was positive, with many students expressing interest in seeing these options added as sides or entrées for the 2026–2027 school menu.

Today we had the honor of visiting Lakewood Elementary for a very special celebration 🌎✨

Students came together to celebrate Earth Day and Plastic Free Lunch Day, showing how small actions can make a big impact on our planet ♻️💚 From mindful choices to big smiles, the energy was inspiring!

We were also proud to welcome a special visit from the USDA, who joined us in witnessing this meaningful moment and the students’ commitment to a more sustainable future.

Moments like these remind us that the next generation is leading the way 🌱

Dallas ISD Food and Nutrition Services proudly celebrated Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day with a week-long initiative from April 6th through April 10th, promoting healthy eating and local agriculture among students.

At selected campuses, in collaboration with Physical Education and Health teachers, students participated in engaging lessons focused on the importance of fruits and vegetables in a balanced diet, as well as the value of supporting local farmers. As part of the celebration, students also took part in a kale taste-testing activity, where they had the opportunity to try kale chips and learn about this nutritious leafy green.

This hands-on experience encouraged students to explore new flavors, make healthier food choices, and gain a deeper appreciation for locally sourced produce. Through education and interactive activities, Dallas ISD continues to foster lifelong healthy habits and community awareness among its students.
