I aim to create a safe space for people who are especially marginalized in Texas, IYKYK.

I am, of course, not dropping my mind-body-holistic roots, so yoga, somatic experiencing, IFS, spirituality, meditation is all accessible if it seems like something you're interested in exploring.

In preparation for my own L&D experience, I've been doing a ton of reading. Here are some of the hurdles that individuals with trauma are more likely to encounter and some trauma-informed solutions. They may seem obvious... after talking with medical professionals... it takes more than just being obvious. Attention Teachers: No one taught you how to navigate teaching, parenting, and living during a pandemic. I see you! At the beginning of November, I will be offering a support group for teachers/professors to come together virtually, once a week to vent, cry, complain, brainstorm, and practice some self-soothing and self-care in a safe, non-judgmental space.
Fee will be donation based.

Sometimes, yoga is life. Depression and anxiety and trauma tempt us to avoid, numb, and dissociate. To leave the body. Yoga brings us back, gently. Yoga is an outlet for constantly discovering the body's abilities and artistry. Yoga is multifaceted. It is playfulness, curiosity, discipline (finding your edge), discovery, and presence (being able to still the mind and listen to the body).

Hi all, for some reason my page was unpublished. Sorry for the disappearance!

I'm making a call to the community. Those of you who know me personally, know I work for a domestic violence shelter. Lately, staff and I have heartbreakingly not always been able to provide the items needed by the women. So, I created a list of items the domestic violence shelter I work for could use (or desperately needs (diapers) or that would just help the women and children feel more loved, cared for, and like their lives are getting closer to a safe, new normal). I know money is tight for a lot of us so I don't have any expectations. But, I figured the more places I share, the better the odds of items being purchased for donation. Items will be shipped to me and brought directly to shelter.

As I am doing these intake sessions, I am reminded just how brave it is to begin therapy.

As we move into the new year, it can be tempting to set lofty resolutions, to declare firmly to yourself and your circle, "I'm doing [x]." So, as you set your goals for 2020, I'd like to offer an additional layer of challenge (or enrichment).

I challenge you, in 2020, to resolve to enjoy each step along the way. Wherever you say your journey is going to take you, savor the scenery. Even the good, the bad, the ugly because that too can grow us in ways we may not even be able to imagine.

Proceed through the months mindfully. If you dance, put all of yourself into dancing. If you're singing in the car, belt it out like you were born to sing. If you're making art, immerse yourself in the colors and textures and shapes. Be fully present in everything.

And honor the endings, no matter how much they might hurt and leave you raw, because they make way for beginnings.

The holidays can be a difficult time for some. I'd like to offer this quote for anyone who finds themselves facing those who hurt them.

I'd like to take this further, not everyone deserves forgiveness. Your healing isn't contingent upon forgiving an abuser. Your feelings are so, so valid. But when you do find yourself wanting and needing to forgive, then I encourage forgiveness that embraces your emotional experience. What you feel and felt matters.
