I'd like to share a rather unusual and free aces prevention resource...parenting tips bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to schools, businesses, organizations, clinics, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting and prevent child abuse five, ten, twenty, fifty years down the road. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to request this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.

Supporting birthing people, women, and mothers to and through parenthood and major life transitions. When I found out I was pregnant, I went through a roller coaster emotions ranging from sad to excited to scared.Pregnancy did not start off magical as most women experience in the first trimester.

However, as I progressed into the second trimester, I realized that my anxiety and depression in the beginning had not subsided. I asked friends and family if what I was feeling was common, and I was not encouraged by what I heard. I felt shame in being depressed while pregnant, not to mention the shame I felt for not having the perfect pregnancy. I went through much of my pregnancy alone and not

❓ How are you showing up for yourself with curiosity ❓

The way we talk to ourselves becomes the way we talk to kids. ⁣

🌱Judging Voice: I shouldn't have yelled.⁣
✨Curious Voice: What led me to react that way?⁣

🌱Judging Voice: What’s wrong with me?⁣
✨Curious Voice: Making mistakes is part of learning.⁣

🌱Judging Voice: I need to just suck it up.⁣
✨Curious Voice: What need is behind this resistance right now?⁣

🌱Judging Voice: I promised myself I’d stop doing this, I should know better.⁣
✨Curious Voice: What need is met when I do this? Is there another way to meet that need?⁣

As we learn to be more gentle with ourselves, we will naturally be more gentle with kids.⁣

🌱Judging Voice: He’s too old to throw a fit like this.⁣
✨Curious Voice: What led him to react that way?⁣

It’s okay to not be okay.
On this Labor Day, make some time to take off the “toxic positivity mask” and just be yourself.
Your authentic self is beautiful. 💫

Repost • @blkwomenshealth

"If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands..." 👏🏿👏🏿 See, that's where the toxic positivity started for some of us!

Seriously, toxic positivity is believing that despite emotional pain or a difficult situation, you should present a positive outlook.

You could do that. But it's also okay to not be okay and not feel like you have to "be on."

Feeling like you must put on a happy face no matter what is how we gaslight our own selves and invalidate our emotions. Don't do that to yourself, sis.

A new reproductive law went into effect this week here in Texas, and many of you may be struggling with how to process it. Some may feel anger while others feel relief. Some may be triggered while others aren’t phased at all.

Please know that, regardless of where you are, we are here for you. Reach out and let us know how we can support you. 🙏

💫 Friendly Reminder of the Day💫

We hustle. We push. We keep going.

As mamas, we sometimes forget to save energy for ourselves. It’s hard, we get it. It’s exhausting, that’s the truth. AND, finding space to give self-compassion and self-love to the one who made need it most can make all the difference.

You are worthy of love and connection. Don’t ever forget that 🌟

Black Maternal Health Week Info

Distressingly, racial disparities in health care are not relegated only to the history books.

History persists for our Black mothers and infants. There is a Black maternal health crisis in the United States.

“Race isn’t a risk factor in maternal health. Racism is.” - Joia Crear-Perry, MD, FACOG

“To prevent women from dying in childbirth, first stop blaming them.” - Monica R. McLemore

As reported in Scientific American in 2019:

“The shameful secret is out: Although the number of women who die in childbirth globally has fallen in recent decades, the rates in the U.S. have gone up. Since 1987 maternal mortality has doubled in the U.S. Now approximately 800 maternal deaths occur every year. One of the most striking takeaways from examining the data is racial disparity: Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related conditions such as cardiac issues and hemorrhage and to bear the brunt of serious complications as well.”

Looking at infant mortality rates: In 1850, the Black infant mortality rate was 1.6 times the non-Hispanic white infant mortality rate.

In 2019, the disparity persists with a Black infant mortality rate 2.3 times the infant mortality rate of non-Hispanic whites.

Race isn’t a factor. Racism is.

This month I’m going to push myself to read and learn and share with you all about Black history and also about the current Black maternal health crisis.

Please feel welcome to comment and teach and share resources down below. 🖤

Happy Monday and Happy International Women’s Day!!
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Change isn’t just about big headline moments, legal victories and international agreements: the way we talk, think, and act every day can create a ripple effect that benefits everyone.

About Push

So many people talk about how beautiful pregnancy, birth and motherhood are, but few tell us that it can be the hardest thing we’ve ever done. We don’t have as many conversations about not feeling like you’re doing everything perfectly and it creates the expectation that we have to be like the parent that seems to have it all. The truth is, none of us know what we are doing, it’s okay to not be okay, and comparison robs us of our value as a person and a parent.

One in five birthing people struggle during pregnancy or postpartum with depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues that impact their way of life. That’s not to mention the emotional toll of infertility, the immense pain of pregnancy and infant loss, and the roller coaster that comes with raising children into adults. Although this feeling is lonely, you do not have to do this alone. Reaching out for support is not weakness, but it is strength. You are in the right place. Push is a practice of women that are passionate about supporting mothers because of our journeys serving moms and becoming moms in one way or another.

Even if you go no further, we are proud of you for taking the first step just to see what resources exist. It feels overwhelming and maybe scary, but our job is to simply help remind you of your value as an individual and your worth as a mother. We want you to feel you’re in a place of no judgment and no shame. Your feelings matter and although you’re not okay now, we look forward to walking with you on journey from surviving to thriving. You can do this!
