After 14 months, the APA has announced they are correcting severity criteria for three of the eating disorders to better reflect reality: severity is not determined by BMI or number of p*rging or bingeing episodes per week, it is how much someone’s life is being impacted by their illness.

This is entirely due to your advocacy!

The new criteria are now in a public comment period for one month before they’re official. We need to put all our support into inching these guidelines over the finish line.

This year’s theme is “Fighting for Change, Committed to Change.” Our community is struggling now more than ever — and the time is now for more: more access, more support, more early intervention, more education, more advocacy, and more community.

The nonprofit organization Eating Disorder Provider Education Network (EDPEN) is gathering input from medical, nutrition, and mental health providers to shape new training programs.

1) Virgie Tovar will be our ambassador and opening
keynote on the 23rd.
2) Sunday, September 21st Alliance x WSAW: Panel
discussion with Alliance group facilitators. Questions from attendees about all
things weight stigma.
3) Tues, Sept 23rd and Wed, Sept 24th: Free education
from 10am-6pm both days. This year will focus on healthcare and topics will
range from pediatrics to menopause, glp1s, healthcare stories from those with
the lived experience and much more.
4) Day, Time TBD: Fireside Chat: eating disorders
clinicians discussing being a higher weight provider, the experiences they've
had and how they manage client relationships especially when a client may have
some internalized weight biases.
5) Thursday, Sept 25: Virgie Tovar will be in
Seattle at the first "fat mall" and discussing clothing, fashion, etc
for larger bodied folks.
