Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care

Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care The Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care at UT Southwestern Nearly 2/3 of patients with depression fail to achieve a full recovery.

Despite substantive advances over the last 30 years, there is no universally effective treatment. The Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care concentrates on identifying innovative treatments and providing state-of-the-art care for patients with depression and bipolar disorder. The Center's goal is to conduct research to gain a better understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms and other underlying causes of depression. In turn, this information facilitates the development of advanced and personalized treatments for patients with depression. The Center also serves as a national resource for research, by collecting and housing large clinical data sets and a repository for biological samples. It also facilitates the adoption of standardized measurements and treatments into clinical practice. Thus CDRCC has become a nationally recognized destination in Texas for the expert treatment of patients with unipolar and bipolar depression. The Center capitalizes on the resources and expertise currently available, recruits and develops recognized scientists, and has established an infrastructure for substantially expanding collaborations with other departments and community partners. Like national cancer centers, the Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center provides a mechanism to rapidly translate advances from research to clinical care.

This month's faculty highlight goes to Dr. Russell Toll!

At the CDRC, Dr. Toll leads clinical trial research on how brain stimulation and brain imaging can improve mental health care and teaches the next generation of physicians how to use transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroencephalograms (EEG) in real-world treatment.

We are so grateful for his commitment to pushing for the best of neuroscience to reach those carrying invisible wounds!

This month's faculty highlight goes to Dr. Abu Minhajuddin!

As the data and statistics lead for TX-YDSRN, Dr. Minhajuddin collaborates with scientists across Texas to move the treatment for depression and suicidal ideation forward by identifying patterns in data to say who benefits and who doesn't from different treatments.

We are so thankful for his hard work in identifying the best methods to combat the depression crisis!
