Equest Hooves for Heroes

Equest Hooves for Heroes Equest is dedicated to improving the lives of North Texas veterans and their families by connecting t There is a magic there that defies description.

Equest has provided EAAT to children and adults with diverse needs for 35 years. We are a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship - International (PATH-I) premier accredited site and an international leader in EAAT. Four years ago, Equest launched our veterans program, "Hooves for Heroes". We believe that horses provide a gateway to better emotional health and a greater quality of life. We also believe that our military veterans have all the skills they need to be productive community members, good neighbors, and civic leaders. When these warriors successfully navigate the transition from the military to civilian life, they make our community stronger. To help them achieve this, Equest Hooves for Heroes aims to improve overall wellness by leveraging the powerful bond between horses and humans. But within that relationship lies the answer to many of life's challenges...just ask anyone who has ever loved a horse.

After nearly 11 years of changing lives, our beloved horse Hickory is retiring!
Since joining Equest in 2015, Hickory has been a part of so many programs, from therapeutic riding to PT/OT, counseling, and competitions. Known for his famous “wiggle lip” and gentle spirit, he has brought smiles to countless clients, volunteers, and staff.
We’re grateful to Mrs. Angie, who will welcome Hickory to his forever home at her ranch in Kaufman this April. Their special bond goes way back, and we know Hickory will be loved and spoiled in retirement.
If you’d like to stop by and wish Hickory well, he’d love to see you! Feel free to leave a photo, memory, or treat at his stall for him to take to his new home. Please contact Laura at ldecou@equest.org to schedule a visit.
Special thanks to Hickory’s wonderful sponsors over the years for helping care for and support him as he changed so many lives at Equest. Your generosity made his incredible work possible.

At 9 years old, Peanut may be a miniature horse, but his personality is anything but small! Playful, a little mischievous, and incredibly friendly, Peanut has already been charming everyone he meets. He has also found his new best friend, Taco, and the two have quickly become an inseparable duo around the barn.
Be sure to say hello to Peanut next time you’re at Equest, he’ll happily accept all the attention!
