Tofu & Tempe, what is best?

I get this question all the time... Let's get down to the numbers.

Tofu and Tempe are both made from soy.

Tofu facts:
馃尡Tofu is coagulated soy milk curds compacted into blocks. (Most tofu is essentially fortified with calcium).
馃尡鈥滻t鈥檚 a wonderful source of protein, it鈥檚 a complete protein, and is high in lysine, an essential amino acid that is very needed in a vegan diet.

馃尡According to the USDA, 3.5 oz of tofu holds:
路 94 calories
路 9.4 g protein
路 5 g fat
路 2 g carbohydrate
路 2.4 g fiber
Tofu has no sugar, and 176 g of calcium

Tempe Facts:
馃尡Tempeh is made from soybeans, not soymilk., you can cut it, slice it and cook with it.
馃尡There are natural bacteria and yeast present in Tempe, so Tempe is a Probiotic. It is also a complete protein, very high in lysine

馃尡According to the USDA, 3.5 oz of tempeh contains:
路 195 calories
路 20 g protein
路 11 g fat
路 8 g carbohydrate

In my opinion, I like them both. It all depends on what you want to cook. But if your focus is to build muscle and to increase protein consumption, maybe you need to start using tempe more often. For the same 3.5 oz, you get 20 grams of protein, versus 9.4 grams of protein from tofu. Of course, it also has more fats and more carbohydrates. Which is ok, we all need to eat our carbs and fats.

Where to find inspiration when you are not feeling it?

Social media has a terrible reputation. It is known that too much SM can hurt your self-esteem, sabotage your self-image, absorb your time, disconnect you from real life, and brainwash you.

But if you know where to look, you might find the good side of social media.

Follow people that make you feel empowered, strong, and happy.

If you follow them, you will find inspiration. Sometimes in a photo and sometimes in a phrase they say.

Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say that inspiration is to be aligned with your spirit.

And I agree, when you act in alignment with your spirit, you find motivation. When you follow people that are aligned with your spirit (values and morals), you will find harmony and inspiration.

Are carbs bad for you? I just finished a zoom call with a new client, we started working today on her new wellness plan.

She is getting married in December, so she is super motivated. She wants to lose weight, get in shape, improve her skin, hair, and her mood.

Her first question was, are carbs bad for me? I have been avoiding them.

"Not at all", carbohydrates are a very important food group. They are vital for your life. They are the macronutrients for your body. If you compare a car to your body, the car needs, oil, gas, and water. Your body also needs, proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. You cannot function without one of them. You cannot deplete your body of a full food group. Carbohydrates are a source of energy, they feed your brain. Imagine if you can live without energy?

You just need to know what carbohydrates to eat.

These are my favorite carbohydrates:

馃崚Sweet Potatoes
馃崚Beans
馃崚Grains (I love all grains)
馃崚Fruits
馃崚Wild rice

See, there is so much good in these foods. The key ingredient in these foods is fiber and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). The fiber keeps your blood sugar stable, and the micronutrients put all the nourishment your body needs.

Please, eat your carbs

I eat salads almost every night. The easiest way to prepare fresh salads is to have your vegetables clean and ready. I have special containers that can store my veggies for a long time. Once it鈥檚 dinner time, l just get my veggies, mix them, cut them and add a protein. Easy. It takes me less than 15 minutes.
