Two out of every three caregivers in the U.S. are women. Women who are caregivers are at greater risk for poor physical and mental health, including depression and anxiety. The pandemic has added even more stress. It is important for caregivers to maintain a healthy lifestyle, manage stress, and reach out for support as needed. To take care of your family, you must also take care of yourself. Please call (214)540-0300 to make an appointment with a clinician who can connect you to every women's health service that we offer!

There is still confusion between COVID myths and facts. MYTH: The natural immunity I get from being sick with COVID is better than the immunity I get from a COVID vaccine. FACT: Not true. COVID vaccines create a more predictable immune response. Getting a vaccine gives most people a high level of protection and can provide added protection for people who have already had COVID. One study showed that people who already had COVID and do not get vaccinated are twice as likely go get COVID again than those who got fully vaccinated after recovery. Please get vaccinated! Enjoy the spring weather by ensuring good health for you and your family!

With great sadness we share news that our dear friend and Board Member, Nicholas "Nick" Renna passed away.

Nick served on the Board of Directors of Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic for 34 years! And he was the President of the Board for more than 20 years! He joined the Board in 1988 and spearheaded the growth of Los Barrios Unidos from a single clinic to the large presence it is today.

Nick was a commercial banker by trade and provided his expertise to LBU. His Board service and lasting legacy can be measured in hundreds of volunteer hours, thousands of families cared for, and millions of dollars raised.

Rest in Peace, Nicholas Renna. Thank you for your service. You are forever in our hearts. We will miss you.

Repost from @cdcgov

during pregnancy can lead to severe illness, pregnancy complications, and death. Growing data provide evidence of both the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy. Pregnant women are especially at high risk for contracting COVID-19. To help protect you and your baby, CDC recommends getting a COVID-19 vaccine before or during pregnancy.

CDC on Cloth Face Masks

The CDC recommends wearing face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

The CDC says cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure. However, N95 masks have proven to be more effective than cloth masks. Please see the descriptions on the photo to show the efficiency of different types of masks.

✨Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

✨The CDC also has guidance when it comes to some of the most common questions surrounding the use of masks:

Should cloth face coverings be washed or otherwise cleaned regularly? How regularly?

Yes. They should be routinely washed depending on the frequency of use.

How does one safely sterilize/clean a cloth face covering?

A washing machine should suffice in properly washing a face covering.
How does one safely remove a used cloth face covering?

Individuals should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, and mouth when removing their face covering and wash hands immediately after removing.

Pediatricians work together with parents and guardians to make sure that children stay healthy and that their physical, mental, and emotional growth are on track. Through regular check-ups and occasional sick visits, a pediatrician provides preventative care, ensures important developmental milestones are reached, and can diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of diseases. Pediatricians also serve as educators, helping parents and children understand the importance of establishing healthy habits in areas such as nutrition, exercise, and sleep.

Reach out to your pediatrician if your child has any of the following symptoms:

High Fever
Coughs, colds, or other respiratory problems
Pain while using the restroom

At LBU we have wonderful pediatricians. Call 214-540-0300 to schedule an appointment for your child. We accept children ages 0 to 17 years old. ✨

Our Story

In 1972, residents of several West Dallas neighborhoods united to open a community clinic in a portable building to serve a population disenfranchised from the services of the city due primarily to language and cultural differences.

Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic (LBUCC) has flourished remarkably over the past 43 years. Nearly 30 clinicians provide care to over 22,000 patients through 74,000 visits.

Patients are drawn from communities throughout the D/FW Metropolitan area, although West Dallas, Oak Cliff and Grand Prairie are core service areas. LBUCC proudly provides top-notch care to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, place of residence or even the ability to pay.

Today, LBUCC boasts over 50,000 square feet of clinic space on the West Dallas campus and a satellite clinic in Grand Prairie. In the Spring of 2016, LBUCC will open a new 21,400 sq. ft. facility in South Oak Cliff.

Primary care services include pediatrics, prenatal and postpartum care, adult care, mental health care, dental care for children, a WIC program and a pharmacy. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale. We also accept Medicaid, CHIP and Medicare.

LBUCC has been fully accredited by The Joint Commission since 1998.

LBUCC has gained a great deal of experience after 43 years of serving the community and continues to respond to the community’s changing needs.
