This is Mental Health Month. As a therapist, this month is very important to me because it highlights the importance of mental health care and focuses on removing the barriers and stigma around treatment. Check on your strong friends and family members! Normalize and validate their experiences regarding their mental health. Encourage them to seek treatment or help them access care. By all means, take care of yourself and be kind to your mind! You only get one brain, so take care of yourself and reduce your stress. Get physical checkups because some mental health issues may occur due to physical health problems. Exercise, eat well, and get plenty of rest. Your mind will thank you. Don’t be ashamed to seek help. That is the bravest thing you can do!

Perfectionism is a drive to meet expectations, not just yours but everyone else's. Self-criticism kicks in when you can't keep up. You feel overwhelmed because you feel you can't do things the right way. But here's something to consider: are you holding yourself to a standard that no one else is actually asking of you or one that isn't realistic? You are allowed to do things well without doing them perfectly. No one expects perfection. You are doing it to yourself because, somewhere along the way, someone told you to be excellent or always to do your best. Or, perhaps someone told you that your best wasn't good enough. So now you have become your own worst critic, listening to that inner voice. Remember, you are human, and you do not have to apologize for it. What would you tell a friend in a similar situation? Extend yourself the same grace and gentle advice you would give to a friend.

Some of you are exhausted—not because life is impossible, but because you’ve taken responsibility for things that were never yours to carry.

You’ve been the planner, the fixer, the one who anticipates every need before it’s spoken. And somewhere along the way, that became the expectation.

Here’s the hard truth: just because you can do it all doesn’t mean you should.

When you overfunction, other people underfunction. And then you start to feel unsupported, resentful, and burned out.

This week, ask yourself a simple question:

“What am I doing that someone else is fully capable of doing?”

Then let it or them go, even if it’s uncomfortable.

Stress Will Talk to You—Be Careful What You Let It Say

Let’s be honest—stress has a way of getting loud. It will tell you that everything is urgent, everything is falling apart, and you need to figure it all out right now. And if you’re not careful, you’ll believe it.

But here’s the truth: not everything that feels urgent actually is.

Stress narrows your thinking. It pulls you out of the present moment and pushes you into “what if” scenarios that haven’t even happened. Before you know it, your mind is racing, your body is tense, and your peace is gone.

So instead of trying to solve everything at once, slow it down.

Take a breath.
Focus on what is in front of you.
Handle one thing at a time.

You don’t need to carry the whole week, the whole month, or the whole outcome today. You just need to manage this moment.

And sometimes, managing this moment looks like stepping away, getting some fresh air, saying no, or simply resting without guilt.

Stress will always show up. That’s life. But you get to decide how much control it has over you.

Today, choose calm over chaos—even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time. Speak kindly to yourself like you would a good friend. 😊

Self-care isn’t something you earn after exhaustion — it’s something you practice to prevent it.

Rest because you value yourself.
Set boundaries because you respect yourself.
Do what replenishes your spirit — consistently, not occasionally.

You deserve care before burnout. 💛
