I love New Year’s Eve.
It’s such a great opportunity to sit down and reflect on the year that’s ending, and take time to imagine and plan and strategize about the year to come.
We all need progress in our lives, but in order to progress, we have to allow ourselves the time for self-reflection. We have to have radical honesty and a willingness to see where our lives could be enhanced or improved.
If we aren’t willing to pursue our own betterment, we are resigning ourselves to stagnation…or worse, regression. Becoming worse versions of ourselves.
I know a lot of people don’t like to make New Year’s resolutions because they say, “I never achieve them anyway, so why bother?”
In my exerience, most people who repeatedly lapse on their resolutions are probably not making good resolutions in the first place, which is probably because they don’t have a firm, clear idea of the GOALS they want to achieve. Goals and resolutions are two different things. The resolutions are our battle plan for how we will achieve our goals. They are the means to the end, not the end themselves.
So when we don’t follow through on a resolution, we see it as a failure instead of an opportunity to reassess what we’re REALLY trying to achieve and why that particular resolution didn’t help us get there. It’s a chance to regroup and come up with a new strategy. Falling off the bandwagon may just mean you need a different wagon to hop on, or it may mean you don’t have a clear vision of what you really want and WHY.
But it’s not a failure. Life happens. We have to give ourselves a little grace when it does, and be willing to reevaluate our strategy and recommit to our goals.
The only failure is giving up entirely.
So, as we prepare to launch into 2025, what are you committing to? What area of your life needs nourishing right now?
Remember you don’t just have to make the same old “lose weight/get in shape” goal that everyone seems to make…and not follow through on. If you’re stumped, here are a few ideas to get you started:
* Expanding your diet to incorporate new foods you’ve never tried before
* Picking up a new hobby that you’ve always wanted to learn
* Traveling to a new location for a visit
* Learning a new language
* Strengthening your relationships with friends and family
* Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining your computer files, emails, etc.
* Focusing on your mental or spiritual wellness
* Home improvements
* Reading certain books or a certain number of books
* Taking an online class
* Spending less time on social media and more time with the people in your life
The opportunities are endless. Even working on just one of them for a year will have a ripple effect on your whole life, and give you momentum to pursue other goals.
There’s no limit to what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.
Wishing all of you a very happy New Year! Here’s to a happy, fulfilling, prosperous, and successful 2025!
