Within your neck, the spinal curvature (lordosis) should bend towards your throat ( as shown in the left picture). This allows for proper function of the brain and spinal cord. The weight of the head is evenly distributed and nerves are properly communicating to their end organ.
The picture on the right is of a neck that has lost its spinal curvature. The curvature is no longer lordotic, but instead kyphotic. This means that the spinal curvature within the neck no longer flexes and bends towards the throat. Causing your head to drift in front of your shoulders, your shoulders to round forward, the development of a "hunch back", the development of arthritis and degenerative disc disease, and the loss of nerve to end organ signaling. This abnormal spinal alignment causes problems with digestion, balance and most often the thyroid.
Chiropractic adjustments aim to correct the spinal curvatures and restore the overall structural balance between the head and neck, thereby reducing the risk of joint injury and arthritic degradation. Most often spinal movement is improved and spinal tension is reduced with chiropractic. Nerve transmission to the end organ is restored and begins to rebuild from the disease state. Digestion clears, balance issues resolved and the thyroid functions normally once the cervical curvature is restored with chiropractic.
